  3. Health Office at Augustus Hawkins High School

  4. Health Office Continued… The Health Office is only open to students every Wednesday It offers services such as first aid for minor injuries, beds for students with more serious illnesses to lay down and feel better until a parent/guardian can be contacted, and an information board where healthy eating is the primary focus Posters around the health office display the dangers of various substances such as Alcohol, Heroin, Cocaine, etc.

  5. The Former Gay-Straight Alliance Club • Initially started as a Gay-Straight Alliance by a male student. • Changed Name to Get Empathy. • Attendance gradually declined after the first meeting.

  7. Bienestar -BIENESTARis a unique non-profit social service organization dedicated to positively impacting the health and well-being of the Latino community and other underserved communities in Southern California. -Serves the LGBT Community along with its Allies!

  8. Bienestar continued… BIENESTAR is an expert voice on emerging health issues. Key to its success is health education and awareness regarding HIV/AIDS, substance abuse and drug prevention. It primarily targets the Latino gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender segments of the community. BIENESTAR’s approach empowers its clients to improve their physical and mental health and become productive members of society.

  9. What Services/Resources Bienestar Provides! Free & Confidential HIV Testing! Needle Exchange Program Condom Distribution Pamphlets (Health Issues) Substance Abuse Counseling (Drug & Alcohol) Life Skills Workshops

  10. Reinvigorating the Gay Straight Alliance at Augustus Hawkins! ACTION PLAN: -Resources from BIENESTAR included in the Health Office and around campus--- --ACCESSIBLE for Students! -Gay Straight Alliance on campus! (GSA) -Students coming together to address interests, issues, and concerns facing LGBTQ students at Augustus Hawkins!
