The beginning • Born in May 10, 1958 in Los Angeles California • Humble family • She grew up in La Mesa near San Diego • Ellen was one of 5 children • Graduated Grossmont High School, in 1975 as valedictorian of her class • As a young girl she was interested in a good education and contributing to humanity • Married and became a mother of two

  3. Good Education • Very dedicated to her studies • Talented musician and athlete • went to San Diego State University • Stanford University offered scholarship for understudies but she turned the offer down to stay closer to her family

  4. 3 Events • At the age of 13 she won the San Diego Spelling Bee, was granted distinction of outstanding seventh and eight grade student • In 1980 she entered Stanford University’s graduated program • April 1993, mission Discovery became her first flight into space

  5. 3 Quotes • “I do as much speaking as I am allowed to do. I tell students that the opportunities I had were a result of having a good educational background. Education is what allows you to come out.”

  8. Ellen Ochoa’s Leadership Ellen Ochoa worked hard for what she wanted. She became a scientist, a doctor, an inventor, and engineer, a physicist, a mother and a wife. She studied hard for what she wanted because she believed in good education, and she inspired many women to join NASA and become and astronaut. She was the first women to become an astronaut and prove that its not just a job for men that women can do what men do as well.
