  2. Create a new document and label it “Introduction” Open a New Document

  3. An Introduction has three parts to it: • Hook (anecdote/quote/interesting fact) • Background information about what the paper will be about (very brief) • Thesis Statement (introduces the topics of your body paragraphs) {Parts of an Introduction

  4. Start with your Thesis Statement, so you know what you’re paper is going to be about • We already wrote a Thesis Statement in our “Outsiders Paper” {Start at the End

  5. Label this: Thesis Sentence • Write a Thesis Statement about your opinions on: • Year-round School • The best candy/chip/food • The best pet • The best sports team • The best singing group/artist • The best movie/tv show • Your Thesis Sentence should include your feelings about the topic (NOT USING “I”) and two reasons why. • Example: The Green Bay Packers are the best football team because they have a great quarterback and they have a history of winning. Choose a Topic for Practice

Now that you know what your paper is going to be about, you need to get people interested in reading your paper. • You need to hook them with: • An interesting quote/fact • Since 1919, the Green Bay Packers have won 13 championships, which is more than any other team in the NFL. • An anecdote • The Green Bay Packers are unique as a football franchise because they are not owned by money-hungry corporations or wealthy individuals. Instead, the Packers are owned and managed by 111,968 dedicated fans. • A quote • The great coach, Vince Lombardi, once said “If you don’t think you’re a winner, you don’t belong here.” {The Hook

  7. Label this: Hook • Look back at your Thesis Statement • Choose one of the three ways to start your Introduction • Practice writing your Hook • You can make up quotes/facts for today ONLY! {Your Turn

  8. The middle part of your introduction paragraph adds a LITTLE more information on your topic. • Give big picture information about your topic, nothing to specific. • You do not want to give away or reuse any ideas that you will write about in your body paragraph. Almost Done!

  11. Make sure it goes in the right order • Hook • Middle • Thesis Statement • Re-arrange your sentences in the correct order • Read through it a couple of times and make adjustments to make it a smooth read. {Let’s Put It All Together
