  2. The image above the arrangement of volcanoes located in and around Alaska. Note that the majority of these volcanoes reside along the convergent plate boundary.   4. Reported Alaskan Eruptions Through Time Within the last few decades, there is a major increase in eruptions throughout Alaska. http://www.avo.alaska.edu/images/dbimages/1248210793_.jpg

  5. Why These Earthquakes are so Frequent: Left: The Pacific Plate (yellow) moves under the American Plate (red) because it is less dense. This added pressure builds as the Pacific Plate melts, rising to the surface as magma, and eventually erupting to the surface as a volcano. The American Plate continues to move as well, causing chains of volcanic activity.   6. Tsunamis If an earthquake occurs offshore, a tsunami can develop. The world’s biggest tsunami occurred in Alaska on July 9th, 1958, with waves measuring 1720 feet tall.
