  2. CORPORATE GSK Corporate Community Documentarians will journey with host families as part of GSK’s Orange Day. Host families plan walk itineraries. Target 30 host families + 100 GSK corporate documentarians = 3,000 voices (each group collecting 100 voices) SCHOOL School Community Documentarians will journey with the young adults. DSA(S) plan walk itineraries. GSK-charKOL will coordinate with 30 participating schools. Target 30 young adults host + 150 school documentarians = 6,000 voices (each group collecting 200 voices) INDIVIDUAL Individual Community Documentations will plan their own walk itineraries and produce their own documentaries. Target 50 individual documentarians + 50 individuals/families with Down syndrome = 1,000 voices (each group collecting 20 voices) ONE VOICE. 3 groups of Community documentarians For and WIth Enabling social inclusion through CSR & community art www.onevoice.sg

  5. SCRIPTS and MORE SCRIPTS Is a Script necessary? Not really. Cinema verite in the 1960s- “Notes were probably jotted down and long discussions held as to what sequences to shoot, but no long preproduction scripts with suggested visuals and tentative commentary were prepared. Instead, most of these films were built on the editing table. Granted, you can have a film without a prewritten script, but you can’t have a film without a concept.” Yes. Still, a script is usually the most logical and helpful way to make a film, “akin to the architect’s plan. It is a working document not a literary document.” Conveys key elements to all participants: To everyone - communicates the idea of the film To cameraperson – convey mood, action To director – define approach, inherent logic To production crew – what is budget, how many locations, how many days of shooting? Any special effects? What lighting? Will archive material be needed?   6. SCRIPT FOR ONE VOICE Approach/Style Determine your own style. Essay or Narrative/ Story – to be determined by documentarians. Use your natural voice. You may take photos and videos and songs with sequences in mind. Say a comic approach. Or a dramatic approach. Or a serious approach. Or a poignant approach. If so, please describe. Tell a story with the photos and videos and songs. Be experimental – it is a day for you to explore and discover your own creativity as well! Take some shots close-up. Some which show the whole setting. ONE VOICE is not lecture. ONE VOICE is meant to inspire and be enjoyable to the audience. Executive Director’s approach is postmodern using the photographs, videos, songs and words as found objects. So don’t worry too much about “getting it right”! ONE VOICE.   7. SCRIPT FOR ONE VOICE Structure/Content Down Syndrome Issues – focus on the ones highlighted, but feel free to cover any other issues. Go with your instinct. FOCUS on a particular handle/hook – say the person with Down syndrome, the scene, maybe the therapy tools, maybe your colleagues. Zoom in on whatever moves you most. Portray process of CHANGE – Before and After the Walk, of yourself, of the host family members and of the individual with Down syndrome. One shot would do. Again, don’t think too hard on this. Interview/Dialogue – find out more about the issue that intrigues you most. Talk to the host family member(s). Have a dialogue. There is much we don’t know, but much that we can do as individuals and as a community. Talk about the future. This is also a visioning process. Like making a collective wishlist. SING and COLLECT as many voices singing “One Voice” written by Barry Manilow as possible! DON’T FORGET: Have someone take a photo of all of you together! ONE VOICE.   8. POST-PRODUCTION NOTES FOR ONE VOICE Editing – Narration, Music, Poetry We will use text, voiceover , music or songs from the voice recordings. This is the glue-ing element, which will be created by the director who will use a combination of poetry, found voice, music, and excerpts from the documentarians’ reflections. Director’s role – ensure continuity. The more you capture and submit in words, the more we can deepen the documentary. Start with “Before ONE VOICE……” Start with “On ONE VOICE, I FOUND………” Start with “After ONE VOICE, I WISH……” ONE VOICE.   9. PRE-PRODUCTION: PERMISSIONS Standard Release Form Pretty standard practice Allows producer to use the footage in which the participant appears. Usually a matter of safety rather than necessity. Release stops someone the producer has filmed from making trouble after having given prior permission – claim harm, claim dues Street scene no need releases For ONE VOICE – need releases from corporate volunteers, school groups, individuals, host families, including for minors, any other therapists or individuals co-hosting the “walk” segment. Location Permission Need additional location permission say if visiting institution like schools, hospitals, private clinics. Not required for public area, unless logo or signage of shop etc is clearly in view. Unlikely to be a problem as ONE VOICE is for not-for-profit purposes and will be produced with great sensitivity to such matters. ONE VOICE. PRODUCTION: SCHEDULE & LOCATION CHECKS – CORPORATE & SCHOOL DOCUMENTARIANS Before Attend ONE VOICE Briefing Sign on Participant’s Standard Release form Collect walk itineraries and issued recording equipment Do basic background reading about Down Syndrome provided by ONE VOICE producers During Bring your Walk Itineraries – which will detail your meeting point, time, travel points. Also contact numbers for emergency or troubleshooting. Bring your issued recording equipment– remember no other recording such as handphone cameras , personal digi-cams etc will be allowed. So if you don’t bring this, you will have nothing to record with. Bring a notebook to make notes for later use for writing your reflections. Be on time. Roll with the punches. Be relaxed and go with an open mind. Record your singing and collect as many voices as possible with the issued recording equipment After Submit your issued recording equipment and VOICE RECORDING to ONE VOICE project team. Send your written reflections to ONE VOICE. Don’t worry, this does not have to be a work of art or even grammatically correct. We are after the essence of the story. ONE VOICE. Do basic background reading about Down Syndrome provided by ONE VOICE producers Sign on Participant’s Standard Release form Obtain your Buddy’s signatures on Standard Release formObtain Location Permission, if necessary Plan walk itinerary and recording equipment During Brief your Buddy regarding Walk Itinerary– Bring your recording equipment– remember to get clearance from your Buddy regarding any recording that you intend to use. Bring a notebook to make notes for later use for writing your reflections. Roll with the punches. Be relaxed and go with an open mind. Record you and your Buddy singing and collect as many voices as possible After Submit your VOICE RECORDINGS to onevoice@charkol.com Submit written reflections.
