  1. Grade One Blog Week 15 Friday 6th December Nativity This week’s Nativity performance was a triumph for the children. The setting was beautiful and the children performed with enthusiasm and confidence. The singing was better than ever and left us feeling ready for the festive season. Thank you for your support in getting the children organised with costumes and practicing lines and songs. It was a pleasure to share this very special event with you all. Language Arts Our phonics focus has been ‘ll’ and we are continuing with the CAFÉ strategy ‘Using Punctuation to enhance phrasing’. We have linked this strategy to our journal writing and are delighted to see children using punctuation with more confidence in their writing. Which one of this week’s spelling words do these clues describe? You play with it Starts the same as ‘dot’ and ‘dog’

  2. Maths We have been consolidating addition and subtraction methods and applying them to problem solving scenarios. Have a go at solving these: Challenge your children to use the counting on / back method. Can they try making ten or subtracting from ten? • Unit of Work • This week we have enjoyed having some parent speakers into the class to talk to us about celebrations in their Home countries. We have also thought about celebrations the children have done throughout their lives and put them onto a celebration timeline. Some of us have been able to compare two different celebrations and present our findings on a Venn diagram. • Reminders • School finishes at 12:20 on the last day of term Friday 13th December. Please make sure you make arrangements to pick your child up at this earlier time.
