  3. Unit Aims • To develop an understanding of the basic theoretical and methodological approaches for the design of effective interactive systems. • To support practice with a toolkit of core methods, techniques and tools which can be used in a variety of development contexts, depending on the demands of the problem and the resources available. • To enable students to produce systems which are demonstrably useful, usable and satisfying.

  4. Learning Outcomes • Understand why good user interface design is important and explain how context of use and user characteristics should influence the design of human computer interaction • Use a basic set of methods, techniques and tools for the analysis of user requirements and the specification, design and evaluation of the user interface.

  5. Studying FHCI • Lectures • Seminars • Practical Activities • Exploration of Issues • Reading • Information retrieval and analysis

  6. Assessment • Assignment A: 30% • Week 4 for week 9 • Low Fidelity Prototyping • Assignment B: 35% • Week 9 for week 13 • Usability Evaluation • Portfolio: 35% • Throughout course, hand in week 12 • HCI techniques and concepts
