Healthcare in India By: Emily Sim
Introduction/Background • Health conditions differ • Not being able to eat on convenience • Factors that play into the concept that affect or are affected by lack of healthcare: • Lack of Transportation • Living conditions and food • Accessibility to all citizens • Alternatives
Transportation • Limited methods of transportation • Dangerous • Trains
Food and cleanliness • Scarce amounts of food • Diseases pertaining to consumed food • For those living in poverty, food may be rotten or unhealthy. • Take what they can get • Struggle to accommodate all food groups in their diets • Main exporter of agriculture
Accessibility of Healthcare • Expensive • Not simple or cheap • Seventy five percent of population under poverty threshold • Prioritize within facilities • Slums do not provide adequate safety hazards • “Typically healthcare quality issues fall into three categories of underuse, overuse and misuse”(Varkey).
Alternatives to professional healthcare • With prices to high, healthcare becomes unaffordable to rural citizens • Herbs and “potions” created by the Indians • Medicinal plants- work for certain diseases, but abused and used for other diseases as a result of not being able to access proper healthcare • Even in desperate condition, some Indians still self medicate as oppose to seeking professional help
Conclusion • Healthcare is a complicated tool in India • Limited facilities • Abundant amount of people • Poor living conditions = sickness
