Poseidon sought vengeance upon the Phaecians because they had taken Odysseus home. • 5. Zeus was angry with Poseidon and refused to let him do what he wished. • 6. Odysseus realized at once when he awoke that he was in Ithaca. • 7. The first one to speak to Odysseus in Ithaca was Athena. • 8. Athena sent Odysseus at once to the palace. • 9. Athena transformed Odysseus into a ragged old man.

  5. Eurylochus warns men not to go, but they go any way. • Circe keeps them for 1 year • Sends Odysseus to The Underworld to talk to Tiresias who will tell him how to get home.

Chapter 8 continued • At first he wanted to fight Scylla when Circe tells him about it, but she calls him a stubborn fool. • Shows leadership by not telling the men what will happen • But loses control of men when they insist on landing on the island of the God of the Sun. • Eurylochus gives bad advice to men. • Storm strands them on island for a month. • Zeus sends storm to kill all the men but Odysseus

  10. Why does Athena admire and love Odysseus? • He doesn’t rush to go home. He is civilized, intelligent ready for anything.
