  8. It’s your call ! They’re all examples of good Xeriscape planning using - Correct planting, Minimum maintenance Minimum water Maximum time for Gin and tonic consumption.

  9. How to minimise water usage Install irrigation system, either drip or soak hose Don’t use hose pipe to water unprotected topsoil Use stored, for 10 days, swimming pool water use grey water Try this idea opposite Protect from evaporation by- Mulch Plastic sheeting Hard landscaping

For suitability, look at the leaves • Small - shed heat ,fewer pores less evaporation • Long narrow - shed heat, low evaporation • Grey - generally show drought resistance • Hairy – shade themselves with the hairs • Leathery – lose less water • Waxy – reduces evaporation especially in wind • Fleshy, succulent – store moisture • Aromatic – volatile oils evaporate & cool leaves • Spikes – act as cooling fins
