Clinician/Educator General Criteria The appointment must be appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill; and The candidate must demonstrate excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, and institutional service. Scholarly activity is not required for appointment or promotion

Rank-Specific CriteriaAppointment, ReappointmentClinical Instructor Appointment as (up to three years) Completion of clinical training Demonstration of exceptional qualities Promise to become outstanding Clinicians and Clinical Teachers Reappointment as (up to three years) Evidence of progress in the area of clinical care, clinical teaching Continuing programmatic need

Rank-Specific CriteriaAppointment, Reappointment, PromotionClinical Assistant Professor Appointment as (Three years; shorter term needs prior approval by OAA) Three years post-residency Demonstration of exceptional qualities Promise to become outstanding Clinicians and Clinical Teachers Reappointment as (Four years; shorter term needs prior approval by OAA) Evidence of high level performance in clinical care and clinical teaching Continuing programmatic need Promotion to (Three years; shorter term needs prior approval by OAA) Three years post-residency Excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, and institutional service during prior Clinical Instructor appointment

Rank-Specific CriteriaAppointment, Reappointment, PromotionClinical Associate Professor Appointment or reappointment as (Five years; shorter term needs prior approval by OAA) Evidence that the candidate has attained regional recognition as a superior clinician and teacher Programmatic need Promotion to (Five years; shorter term needs prior approval by OAA) Demonstration of having met the criteria for appointment as Clinical Associate Professor while at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor

Rank-Specific CriteriaAppointment, Reappointment, PromotionClinical Professor Appointment or reappointment as (Five years; shorter term needs prior approval by OAA) Exceptional performance in clinical care and clinical teaching Recognition as leaders in their field Evidence that the candidate has attained national recognition as superior clinician and clinical teacher National recognition as a leader of the health care system or of organizational change and measurement of health care systems Demonstration of continuing excellence and progressive maturation as a physician and teacher Continue to make outstanding contributions to their discipline and to the School Promotion to (Five years; shorter term needs prior approval by OAA) Demonstration of having met the criteria for appointment as Clinical Professor while at the rank of Clinical Associate Professor

New Timeline In 2006 a total of 300 C/E files (all actions) were processed during the 3 months of July, August and September That means: Departments were processing a large number of appointments simultaneously, and OAA was overwhelmed with files to review during those months 2007 C/E file submission deadlines: Reappointment or promotion as of July 1, submit to OAA by April 30, 2007 August 1, submit to OAA by May 31, 2007 September 1, submit to OAA by June 30, 2007 New appointment 30 days prior to appointment start date

Policy Clarifications and Updates Advertisement for C/E Appointments No guidelines set OAA does not need to see the advertisement may change depending on the C/E A&P Committee Use a combination of guidelines for faculty, including posting in Trovix Internal Reference If the candidate is recruited, then letters from his/her degree-granting institution may be used for initial appointment only ACF are considered “internal” referees 30 Day Deadline Finance Group will be moving off-campus in Spring 2007 Allow for longer review processing time Lapsed Appointments If the lapse is 90 days or longer, the candidate must be reinstated (check with OAA before commencing)
