  2. “Used to” Expression

  3. We use the expression used to + verb to talk about the past. Examples: Positive: I used to paint. Negative: I did not use to paint. Question: Did you use to paint?

  4. Used or Use? When there is did in the sentence, we say use to (without d) She did not use to drive. Did she use to drive?

  5. When there is no did in the sentence, we say used to (with d). We used to run 5 miles. My friends used to call me.

  6. Look at these examples.

  7. BE (AM/IS/ARE) USED TO + SOMETHING am used to fast food am used to Texas is used to easy work are not used to grilled chicken

  8. Use of “be (am/is/are) used to” The be (am, is, are) used to expression is for talking about something that is familiar to us or easy for us. Examples: He is not used to New York. I am used to hard work. They are used to frozen meat.

  9. More Examples: Positive: I am used to horses. Negative: He is not used tohorses. Negative: We aren’t used to horses. Question: Are you used to horses?

  10. Be (am/is/are) used to + -ing verb am used to working hard am used to walking five miles is used to living in Chicago are used to eating Chinese soup

  11. If the object involves a verb, we use the -ing form: Negative: I am not used to being lied to. Positive: He is used to working late. Negative: We aren’t used to takingthe bus. Question: Are you used tocooking?
