  1. How to Find a Book Daytona State College Library

  2. Where do I start? • From any computer, go to the library web page at http://www.daytonastate.edu/library/ • Click on “Find a Book” at the top of the page • Enter your search term into the search box • You can search by keyword, title, author or subject

  3. Keyword, Title, Author or Subject? • If you are just starting your search for information on a topic, search by keyword • If you know all or part of the title of the book, search by title • If you know all or part of the author’s name, search by author • If you have narrowed your topic down to a specific area, search by subject

  4. What results do I get? • You will see a list of titles. They may be print books, e-books, audiobooks, or video/DVDs. • Click on the title to see more information about the book or video. • Print books, videos and DVDs are filed on the shelves that surround the computer commons.

  5. How do I find a book on the shelf? • Print books are filed on the shelves using a call number. • The call number begins with 1 or 2 letters, followed by a series of numbers. • The books are filed alphabetically by the first letters, then numerically after that. • The call number is found at the bottom of the page that describes the book.

  6. What if the book isn’t on the shelf? • The book may be checked out. You can determine this beforehand by clicking on “Daytona State/Daytona” below the title. • The book may be misfiled. Ask one of the librarians to help you. • The book may be at the DeLand campus library. If the listing says “Daytona State/West,” the book is in DeLand. You may request these books; see the “Getting the Most from the Library Website” tutorial to learn how.

  7. How do I check out a book? • Take the book to the circulation desk with your student ID. • You may check out a book for 2 weeks and renew it once. • You may renew online, but only if the book is not overdue. • There is a fine of $0.25/day for overdue books. • If you lose a book, you will be charged for the cost of replacement.

  8. Who do I call for questions? • If you have a question about finding a book, call the reference desk at (386) 506-3518. • If you have a question about checking out a book or a fine, call the circulation desk at (386) 506-3055.
