  2. Scarborough Beach, Maine – The Gem in a Bouquet of Beaches with Diverse Opportunities for Memorable Oceanside Vacations Scarborough, a town in Maine, on the south coast of the state, is a resort community with inviting beaches which are among the best on the Maine coastline. Its location on the Gulf of Maine which is part of the Atlantic Ocean is especially attractive because it ensures special views and sunsets. It is famous for its proximity to the Scarborough Beach State Park –well known to people who appreciate great sunbathing and swimming opportunities. The excellent swimming conditions, especially in July and August, with water temperatures auspiciously inviting, are worth planning vacations there. The sandy beaches are dotted with dunes, and the surf is excellent. There are changing rooms, bathroom facilities, showers – and there is a place to treat everyone to all kinds of eats and treats, pizzas, wraps, etc.

  3. The eatery place is called the Shack, and it also takes care of the rental of umbrellas, chairs, and boogie boards. Bikers should be reassured that there are bike racks especially for them. After plenty of sunbathing and swimming, searching for shells can yield great souvenirs to take home. Scarborough Things to Discover in Scarborough A fascinating feature of Scarborough is a freshwater pond, which is close to the shore and is known under the name of Massacre Pond. Its story is captivating – an Indian fighter was killed together with 18 other settlers, and their bodies were thrown in the pond. Sometime later the Indians got the bodies out and buried them somewhere, but nobody knows where. Besides Scarborough beach, Higgins Beach is also worth exploring vacation area. It is smaller, but its location is truly picturesque, between bedrocks in the southwest and the Spurwink River in the northwest. Small though the beach is, it boasts two inns, the Breakers and the Higgins Beach, which are hospitably welcoming in the summer season. But there are also other fascinations which attract visitors – striped bass fishing is exciting, and there is a shipwreck embedded in the sand. Finally, surfing opportunities are also excellent. The charm of Higgins Beach is in its quiet tranquility, and it is especially preferred by families which return here as regular vacationers. Crescent is yet another opportunity which combines a beach and a park with picnic facilities – tables and barbecue grills. The grove comprised of elms and beaches is pleasantly shady, and the grassy sand dunes lend a charm to the shore. The conditions for fishing, boating and other water related activities are wonderful. What is outstanding about Crescent is that in the winter, cross country skiing is a favorite activity there.

  4. It is interesting to compare Scarborough Beach and the smaller Crescent and Higgins beaches. Scarborough is indubitably the most interesting, and it is also the most unusual. It features dunes, and terns and plovers, as well as seals, can be seen lazing on the rocks. Higgins is attractive with its serenity for residents and families, and surfers love it when the wind starts blowing from the north. Crescent is great for both sunbathing and swimming, and it is attractive even in winter – for cross country skiers. Everyone can have a memorable vacation in the area of Scarborough Beach and many visitors prefer to come back here just to make sure their vacation was really so cool.
