  2. Implementation Plan • The first week of class will be used to introduce PBL with a case about classroom management. • Our goal is to introduce 5 PBL units per semester. • PBL units will mainly be used to introduce labs: • Titration lab • Solubility lab • Cu to Cu lab

  3. Cases • Who Upset Johnny? • A popular high school basketball player gets sick with an upset stomach. After taking both prescription and non-prescription strength antacids, his studies result in a titration lab. • Learning issues: Acid-base chemistry Titrations

  4. Cases • The Foreign Object • A college student wakes up with a sharp pain. His friends finally convince him to see a doctor after his symptoms get worse. An x-ray reveals a foreign object in his abdominal region, and urinalysis test lists concentration of various ions. Students play the role of the doctor to figure out the problem. • Learning issues: Solubility Crystallization Solubility product calculations
