  2. Objectives: • Students should be able to multiply rational expressions, • State excluded values, and • Factor and simplify rational expressions.

  3. Assignment • Pg. 313 #3-32 all

  4. Introduction • To multiply fractions, you multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators. • You can use this same method to multiply rational expressions.

  5. Ex. 1: Find . State excluded values. • To multiply fractions, you multiply the numerators and multiply the denominators. • You can use this same method to multiply rational expressions.

  6. Ex. 1: Find . State excluded values. Multiply Factor Simplify

  7. More information • From this point on, it will be assumed that all replacements for variables in rational expressions that result in denominators equal to zero will be excluded. • You may find it easier to use a shortcut before multiplying fractions as shown in the next slide • You can use the same shortcut when multiplying rational expressions

  8. Find 1 4 Simplify 1 7

  9. Ex. 3 Find . Simplify x≠0, -5, -2

  10. Ex. 4 Find . Simplify x≠5, -5, -2
