  1. BULLY PROOFING ROOM 23

  2. What is Bullying ? • Bullying is negative behavior that is intended to either harm others physically or emotionally. • There are four main types of Bullying. • Physical Bullying • Verbal Bullying • Social Bullying • Cyber Bullying

  3. How Can We End Bullying? • Following each of the examples of bullying, we have provided strategies of what can be done to combat that form of bullying. • The first strategy discusses what the victim(s) of bullying should do. The second strategy is intended to show what behavior the bully should have demonstrated instead. • If you are a bystander both strategies should direct your thoughts and actions.

  4. Physical Bullying • Physical Bullying can include such things as pushing, tripping or hitting another person, and or damaging their belongings.

  5. Anti-Bullying Strategies • The boys need to tell Aries that he had no right to destroy their structure, and that he is physically bullying. They then need to inform an adult of what happened. • Aries should have asked the boys if he could have joined them in creating the structure, instead of ruining it.

  6. Verbal Bullying • Verbal bullying involves using words to cause someone to feel bad. • It can involve using threats, teasing or making fun of a person.

  7. Anti-Bullying Strategies • Nahome needs to tell Quinten that he has no right to tease him, and that what he is doing is verbal bullying. Nahome then needs to inform an adult about what has happened. • Quinten should have offered to help Nahome instead of making him feel badly about having trouble doing his work.

  8. Social Bullying • Social Bullying is a way of hurting another person on an emotional level. • It is often done by making others feel unwanted, like they don’t belong, or not being included in a group on purpose.

  9. Anti-Bullying Strategies • Genet needs to let the girls know that by excluding her, that this was social bullying. She can say this to the entire group of girls, or to one at a time. • The girls should not have made fun of Genet, or left her behind. Instead they should have asked her to join them in going outside to play at recess.

  10. Cyber Bullying • Cyber bullying uses technology to publish hurtful or threatening comments or images of another person. • Cyber bullying often is done using social network websites such as: MSN, Myspace, Facebook or Twitter.

  11. Anti-Bullying Strategy • Julie needs to immediately tell an adult about what has happened, so that the message can be removed as quickly as possible, and that no more hurtful messages can be created. • Nathan needs to know that what he has done is cyber-bullying, and that it will not tolerated. He will have his computer privledges taken away at school, and/or be dealt with by the police if the behavior persists. Winnipeg School Division Policy JGD-R Suspension of Students will be enforced.

  12. You Decide • What form of bullying do you think is happening in the following scenes?
