  2. Copper panels • Instead of the more common canvas or wood supports, copper panels have been used as a support for paintings. Copper was extremely popular in the 16th and 17th centuries, and the paintings look as brilliant and colourful today as they did then. It is a fantastic resource to work with.

  3. Copper Preparation for Painting • It couldn't be easier to prepare a panel for painting on. In fact, it requires far less effort than most other supports! • This is what you require: • Sandpaper made from copper plate • Cleaning gloves with methylated spirit • ventilation with a lint-free cloth

  4. Why Copper panels? • The surface of an unprepared copper plate is too smooth to paint on. If you do not prepare it slightly, you risk the paint not adhering properly and peeling off when dry. That is absolutely not what we want! So, the first step is to carefully sand the copper surface with fine sandpaper (the finer, the less texture you will have; the rougher, you will see sanding stripes and texture). Make consistent movements to create an even surface. Although not much dust will be removed (do not blow), a texture will form on the copper. These are the 'teeth' that will keep your paint in place. If your panel has sharp edges, sand the sides as well.

  5. Artefex Copper Artist Panel • Artefex Copper Artist Panel is a professional oil painting panel on a copper composite panel made of copper and an aluminium sheet glued to both sides of a plastic core. Artefex Copper Artist Panels are better than wood panels for • Painting support because they respond very slowly to environmental changes such as relative humidity (RH) and temperature.
