  5. 23When they came to Marah, they could not drink its water because it was bitter. (That is why the place is called Marah.) 24So the people grumbled against Moses, saying, “What are we to drink?” Exodus 15:19-26

  6. 25Then Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. He threw it into the water, and the water became fit to drink. There the Lord issued a ruling and instruction for them and put them to the test. Exodus 15:19-26

  11. WOUNDS Everybody has them.

  12. Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there?(Jeremiah 8:22a)

  13. Exodus 15:22-27 His name is Jehovah-rapha

  14. Jehovah – “The Existing One” Lord Rapha means “to restore”, “to heal” or “to make healthful”

  15. The Great Physician is Jehovah-rapha.The LORD who heals. Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; Save me and I will be saved, For You are my praise.(Jeremiah 17:14)

  16. WhatdoesHe Heal?

  17. …My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal theirland.(II Chronicles 7:14)

  18. The LORD will strike Egypt, striking but healing; so they will return to the LORD, and He will respond to them and will heal them.(Isaiah 19:22) But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being [fell] upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.(Isaiah 53:5)

  19. He heals the brokenheartedAnd binds up their wounds.(Psalms 147:3) 1Bless the LORD, O my soul, And all that is within me, [bless] His holy name. 2Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget none of His benefits; 3Who pardons all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases.(Psalms 103:1-3)

  20. 16When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill. 17[This was] to fulfill what was spoken through Isaiah the prophet: “HE HIMSELF TOOK OUR INFIRMITIES AND CARRIED AWAY OUR DISEASES.”(Matthew 8:16-17)

  21. 24and He Himself bore oursinsin His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. 25For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.(I Peter 2:24-25)

  22. Are you wounded? Do you need a physician?

  23. Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; Save me and I will be saved, For You are my praise. (Jeremiah 17:14)

  24. Where do you run?

  25. Health, Healing and Obedience often go together.

  26. Is all sickness due to sin? YES NO 1As He passed by, He saw a man blind from birth. 2And His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he would be born blind?” 3Jesus answered, “[It was] neither [that] this man sinned, nor his parents; but [it was] so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” (John 9:1-3) If man had not sinned there would be no sickness (Genesis 3). In that sense all sickness is due to sin.

  27. People may get sick and it have nothing to do with THEIR sin, but sin always has something to do with sickness.

  28. Is There A Connection? Numbers 12:9-13 9So the anger of the LORD burned against them and He departed. 10But when the cloud had withdrawn from over the tent, behold, Miriam [was] leprous, as [white as] snow. As Aaron turned toward Miriam, behold, she [was] leprous.

  29. 11Then Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord, I beg you, do not account [this] sin to us, in which we have acted foolishly and in which we have sinned. 12Oh, do not let her be like one dead, whose flesh is half eaten away when he comes from his mother's womb!” 13Moses cried out to the LORD, saying, “O God, heal her, I pray!”

  30. 1O LORD, rebuke me not in Your wrath, And chasten me not in Your burning anger. 2For Your arrows have sunk deep into me, And Your hand has pressed down on me. 3There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your indignation; There is no health in my bones because of my sin.(Psalms 38:1-3)

  31. Isaiah 1:4-6 4Alas, sinful nation, People weighed down with iniquity, Offspring of evildoers, Sons who act corruptly! They have abandoned the LORD, They have despised the Holy One of Israel, They have turned away from Him.

  32. 5Where will you be stricken again, [as] you continue in [your] rebellion? The whole head is sick and the whole heart is faint. 6From the sole of the foot even to the head there is nothing sound in it, [only] bruises, welts and raw wounds, not pressed out or bandaged, nor softened with oil.

  33. John 5:5-8, 14 5A man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. 6When Jesus saw him lying [there], and knew that he had already been a long time [in that condition], He said to him, “Do you wish to get well?” 7The sick man answered Him,

  34. “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” 8Jesus said to him, “Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.” 14Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you have become well; do not sin anymore, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

  35. I Corinthians 11:27-32 27Therefore whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner, shall be guilty of the body and the blood of the Lord. 28But a man must examine himself, and in so doing he is to eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

  36. 29For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself if he does not judge the body rightly. 30For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep. 31But if we judged ourselves rightly, we would not be judged. 32But when we are judged, we are disciplined by the Lord so that we will not be condemned along with the world.

  37. So, what have we learned? Whenever we need healing: • Consult Jehovah-rapha, the Great Physician first! • Explore whether sin is the cause of the problem.

  38. I am full of anxiety because of my sin.(Psalms 38:18b)

  39. We need to ask God to search our hearts and help us see the truth. 23Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me and know my anxious thoughts; 24And see if there be any hurtful way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way. (Psalms 139:23-24)

  40. For I am conscious of nothing against myself, yet I am not by this acquitted; but the one who examines me is the Lord.(I Corinthians 4:4)

  41. God meets us at the point of obedience. 13He who conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes [them] will find compassion. 14How blessed is the man who fears always, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity. (Proverbs 28:13-14)

  42. (Isaiah 53:5c)
