ADVANCE TO STARTER • Be certified S&T for two years • Attend starters clinic or 1 on 1 session with experience DR or MR approved by Officials Chair • Pass USA-S Starter Test • Must be S&T for 18 months before taking test • Send email to Officials Chair and Officials Registrar • Full name • USA-S membership number • Phone (with area code) • Request position of Apprentice Starter

ADVANCE TO STARTER • Function as Apprentice Starter for 10 sessions over 6 meets • Sessions must be entered into OTS by Meet Referee • Trainee should keep a log • Meet Referee should sign log for each session worked • Complete apprenticeship within 9 months of taking test • Send email to Officials Chair and Officials Registrar • Full name • USA-S Membership Number • Phone (area code) • Names of 3 currently certified STSI Referees who recommend your advancement • One must be the local Officials Committee Member, the Officials Chair, or another Senior Official approved by the Officials Chair • Request certification as Starter

ADVANCE TO DECK REFEREE • Certified as S&T and/or Starter for minimum of 3 years • Attend Deck Referee clinic or 1 on 1 session with experience DR or MR approved by Officials Chair • Pass USA-S tests for: • Timing Judge • Clerk of Course • Administrative • Referee • Must be certified as S&T and/or Starter minimum 30 months before taking test • Send email to Officials Chair and Officials Registrar • Full name • USA-S membership number • Phone (with area code) • Request position of Apprentice Deck Referee

  5. ADVANCE TO DECK REFEREE • Function as Apprentice Deck Referee for 12 sessions over 8 meets • Sessions must be entered into OTS by Meet Referee • Trainee should keep a log • Meet Referee should sign log for each session worked • Complete apprenticeship within 12 months of taking test • Send email to Officials Chair and Officials Registrar • Full name • USA-S Membership Number • Phone (area code) • Names of 3 currently certified STSI Meet Referees who recommend your advancement • One must be the local Officials Committee Member, the Officials Chair, or another Senior Official approved by the Officials Chair • Request certification as Deck Referee

  6. ADVANCE TO MEET REFEREE • Certified as STSI Deck Referee for minimum of 6 months • Must be assistant to the Meet Referee for at least 3 STSI Sanctioned or Approved meets • Must be assistant to the Meet Referee for the duration of each of these meets • The Meet Referee for one of these meets must be • Current officials Committee member or • Senior Meet Referee who has been approved by the Officials Chair • Must include 2 different Meet Referees • Send email to Officials Chair and Officials Registrar • Full name • USA-S membership number • Phone (area code) • Names of at least 2 currently certified active STSI Meet Referee for which you served as an assistant who recommend your promotion • One must be Officials Committee Member or Senior Meet Referee approved by Officials Chair • Request certification as Meet Referee
