  1. Quality-of-Service in IP Services over Bluetooth Ad-HocNetworks WAH-CHUN CHAN Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Calgary, Canada JIANN-LIANG CHEN, PO-TSANG LIN and KA-CHIN YEN Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Dong Hwa University, Taiwan Mobile Networks and Applications 8, 699–709, 2003 2003 Kluwer Academic Publishers. Manufactured in The Netherlands.

  2. OutLine • Introduction • Bluetooth-IP services • QoS-centric cascading mechanism • Performance analysis • Conclusions

  3. Introduction • Bluetooth have the potential to ensure the best services, system resources and quality. • The BLUEPAC (BLUEtooth Public ACcess) can enable mobile Bluetooth devices to access local area networks.

  4. Introduction • BT can access IP network services using the • IETF Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) and • the Bluetooth Network Encapsulation Protocol (BNEP).

  5. Introduction • To provide high QoS in a Bluetooth-IP mobile environment, a pre-requisite for our discussion is seamless data transmission. • A cascading system: • fair resource allocation scheme, • seamless handoff strategy, and • transparent bridging system

  6. Bluetooth-IP services

  7. Bluetooth-IP services • Piconet • Scatternet:Several piconets

  8. Bluetooth-IP services

  9. Bluetooth-IP services

  10. QoS-centric cascading mechanism • QoS is critical in transmitting of different network segments. • a QoS-centric cascading mechanism

  11. QoS-centric cascading mechanism • Intra-piconet resource allocation • Inter-piconet handoff • Bluetooth-IP access system

  12. QoS-centric cascading mechanism • Intra-piconet resource allocation • Two service types: • Synchronous Connection Oriented (SCO) and • Asynchronous Connectionless Link (ACL) • Flush Timeout

  13. QoS-centric cascading mechanism

  14. QoS-centric cascading mechanism

  15. QoS-centric cascading mechanism • Inter-piconet handoff • Connection procedure • Handoff

  16. QoS-centric cascading mechanism

  17. QoS-centric cascading mechanism

  18. QoS-centric cascading mechanism • Bluetooth-IP access system

  19. QoS-centric cascading mechanism

  20. QoS-centric cascading mechanism

  21. Performance analysis

  22. Performance analysis

  23. Performance analysis

  24. Conclusions • A fast and efficient handoff scheme that supports BT roaming handoffs between different Access Points was proposed.
