  1. GIS Experiment • Understand the state of GIS across agencies • What services are supported and how well? • How do you find datasets? • What formats are available? • What tools can I use to interact with an agency? • Are there examples or cookbooks? • Produce a report card • Why? • Understand one can consume and integrate our data • Identify gaps in our services • Understand how each agency is proceeding • How the data is available can affect how it will be used Geospatial Cluster

  2. GIS Experiment • Create a cross-agency data mashup • Target initially NASA, EPA, NOAA, USGS, … • Identify data sources • Identify an interesting question (NCA related?) • Use Open Source Tools • Identify tools (GeoPortal Server, GeoServer/Mapserver, QGIS, OpenLayers, GDAL, PostGIS, …) • Access to anyone • Test conformance and ease of integration • Anyone can repeat the experiment Geospatial Cluster

  3. To Be Determined • An interesting question to mashup a map for that crosses agencies • Qualitative metrics for report card • System to host the experiment on • Volunteers to work on agency integration • Wiki to document the experiment • Identification of toolsets and data sources • Something to repeat every year? Geospatial Cluster

  4. The Plan • Take a small portion of every geospatial monthly call to talk about this • Deliver results iteratively • Amount of work to be done will be determined by level of participation • Create a poster for next ESIP Winter to discuss results Geospatial Cluster
