Credits Required for 2013 Graduation English (I, II, III, Senior) 4.0 Credits (Senior Credits) Social Studies 3.0 Credits (US History 2) Math (Geometry, Algebra 2) 3.0 Credits Science (2 lab sciences) 3.0 Credits Foreign Language 0.0 Credits (2.0 > credits for college) Unified Arts or CTE 1.5 Credits (Art, Music, Business, etc.) Physical Education 1.0 Credits (.4 for PE-CTE) Health 0.25 Credits (not required for CTE until 2014) Additional Credits 6.25 Credits TOTAL 22.0 Credits (Minimum for Graduation) (Additionally, Capstone & Community Service) Note: MCAS Requirements (ELA, MATH, SCIENCE) ***** See your counselor if there is any doubt!

  6. BE AWARE OF DEADLINES! • Senior year is all about DEADLINES –college applications, financial aid & scholarships, changing courses, and completing all your requirements for GRADUATION!

The College Application Process Guidance Counselor: • Transcript (GPA & Class Rank) • All test scores reported to WHS • School Profile • Counselor Recommendation • Any teacher letters on hand EARLY ADMISSIONS: Early Action (EA) (Non-Binding) Early Decision (ED) (Binding) REGULAR ADMISSIONS: Regular Admissions (Reviewed after deadline listed by school) Rolling Admissions (Reviewed as Submitted) YOU are responsible for: • Application & Fee • Common App. or College Web Site • If Common App., complete supplements • Essays/Writing (part of application) • Send directly to colleges via application • Teacher Recommendations • Provide teachers with addressed envelopes and proper postage. Teachers should send recommendations directly to colleges. -- OR give copies of letters to Guidance • Providing addressed envelopes with proper postage to Guidance Counselor (3 to 4 stamps for postage)

  8. ADMISSIONS CATEGORIES EARLY ADMISSIONS Early Action (EA) = Non-Binding Early Decision (ED) = Binding REGULAR ADMISSIONS Regular Admissions = Reviewed after deadline Rolling Admissions = Reviewed as submitted Generally speaking, MAY 1st is your decision deadline!

Online Application • If you are completing your application online, you must print out ANY forms your high school must complete (Secondary School Report Form/ Teacher Evaluation Form, etc.). • You can “invite” a teacher to submit their rec online via Common Application (communicate with teacher) • Thank the teacher 

Fall 2012 • Schedule appointment with Guidance Counselor. • Complete resume/brag sheet and return to Guidance • Register to take/retake ACT/SAT/Subject Tests. • Send scores to colleges. • Send scores to WHS (School Code 220745) . • Check out military academy and ROTC deadlines. • Meet with college representatives when they visit WHS. • Attend local college fairs. {QHS on 10/18 (6-8pm)} • Plan college visits and interviews. Seniors are allowed three (3) excused absences for college visits • Parents/Students attend Admissions Evening(10/18 @6:30pm) • Get involved in extra-curricula's …build that resume!

Fall 2012 • Finalize teacher (1-2) and guidance counselor recommendations. • Finalize list of colleges & their application deadlines (safety, possible and reach). • Continue work on application essays. Ask teachers to review drafts. • Prepare Early Decision (Binding)/Early Action (Non-Binding) applications and submit them for November deadlines. • Complete the CSS Profile Form (starting Oct. 1) if colleges require it for application or financial aid.

  12. November • November 1-15th: Early Decision/Action Deadlines. • Apply for a PIN. PIN is used as electronic signature for Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) http://www.pin.ed.gov. • Complete Transcript Release Form (TRF) and return to Guidance Counselor at least two weeks prior to date you want application sent. • Provide manila/standard white envelopes to Guidance Counselor with printed addresses of colleges and appropriate postage (3-4 stamps).

  13. December • Complete applications (regular admissions) • Review essay drafts with teachers • Attend financial aid night at WHS • On Dec. ??? @ 6:30pm we will be hosting a financial aid workshop. A representative from Mass Educational Financing Authority (MEFA) will be on hand to answer all FAFSA related questions/concerns. • Research scholarships. • www.fastweb.com • WHS Scholarship Scoop Newsletter • Check online & in guidance offices • http://www.tericollegeplanning.org/who/copley.html (Boston Public Library)

  14. January • Complete FAFSA and submit after January 1st. • Be aware of regular decision deadlines! • Communicate admissions decisions/plans with your guidance counselor. • Continue to research scholarships.

  15. No senioritis – Colleges do look at second semester grades!

  16. GPAs Colleges will re-calculate your GPA. They take into account Honors and AP courses and attach weight to courses.

  17. 2012-2013 SAT Exam Dates • October 6th (Reg.Deadline 9/7) • November 3rd (Reg.Deadline10/5) • December 1st (Reg. Deadline11/6) • January 26th (Reg. Deadline12/28) • March 9th (Reg. Deadline2/8) (No SAT II’s) • May 4th(Reg. Deadline4/5) • June 1st(Reg. Deadline5/7) NOTE: Students are responsible for registration. Regular Registration for SAT I is $50. Students should register online using their free access account onwww.collegeboard.org
