  2. What is a noun? • A noun is the name of a person, place, thing or idea. People- farmer, mechanic, father, Mrs. Gatz, Bob, etc. Places- ocean, Canada, porch, Spain, classroom, etc. Things- scissors, giraffe, pen, tugboat, skateboard, etc. Ideas- love, faith, courage, anxiety, happiness, etc.

  3. All nouns are Common or Proper.

  4. Collective Nouns • A collective noun names a group of people or things. Example. jury, flock, fleet, club, class, group

  5. Compound Nouns • A compound noun is a noun consisting of more than a single word. It could be separate words, or it could be two or more words joined by a hyphen. Example. social studies, dining room, merry-go-round, sister-in-law
