  1. What Would You Do? • Your company has a firm policy regarding cases of theft of company property. Used company equipment is on a table to be sold by bid each month. You see a valued employee who is two months from retirement slip an electric drill from the table and put it in his car before the day of the sale. What do you do?

  2. What Would You Do? • On the day before your best friend’s wedding, you see his/her soon-to-be significant other kissing someone else. You only have one chance to tell your friend before the wedding. What do you do?

  3. What Would You Do? • You are the last hope for a distant relative who desperately needs a bone marrow donation, but there is only a 20% chance YOU will survive the exchange. Would you agree to the donation?

  4. “What Men Live By” • Deals with ethical and moral realities and what is really important in life • Told to famous Russian author Leo Tolstoy (War and Peace) by a traveling stranger

  5. Foreshadowing The story offers many clues and hints as to what will take place later on. Can you predict what will happen in the end?

  6. Things to Consider While Reading… • This short story is a great example of didactic literature (lit. that teaches us a lesson). What lessons are you learning while reading? • Does Tolstoy employ any religious imagery? (Look closely at the names in the story) • Does this story relate to any of the others we’ve read in our Faith unit? (Remember: The comparative essay is looming)
