  1. Part 12Show Me The Money

  2. Introduction • The Bible has much to say about money and finances with over 2,000 verses teaching on money and finances. The book of Proverbs alone has no less than 87 references on money, debt and riches. Why so many references to money and finances in the Bible? God knows that we are in need of resources/money to provide for our basic necessities and wants, but He also knows that our human heart can deceive us into loving and trusting money instead of God. Money is a great tool, but it is a terrible god!

  3. Big Idea:Show Me The Money!

  4. Truth #1 We must honor god first with our finances • Honor God with your first and your best • Proverbs 3:9–10 9 Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; 10 So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.

  5. Truth #1 We must honor god first with our finances • Honor God with your first and your best • Love and Serve God not Money • Luke 16:9-13 …10 He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?...

  6. Truth #1 We must honor god first with our finances • Honor God with your first and your best • Love and Serve God not Money • Give Generously and Regularly • 2 Corinthians 9:6-8, But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

  7. Truth #2 Wealth is the reward of hard work, diligence and god’s blessing • Laziness and Dishonesty reaps Poverty • Proverbs 6:10–11 10 A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep— 11 So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, And your need like an armed man. • Proverbs 13:11 Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, But he who gathers by labor will increase. • Proverbs 20:21 21 An inheritance gained hastily at the beginning Will not be blessed at the end.

  8. Truth #2 Wealth is the reward of hard work, diligence and god’s blessing • Laziness and Dishonesty reaps Poverty • Diligence and Integrity reaps Prosperity • Proverbs 21:5 5 The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty. • Proverbs 28:19–22 19 He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough! 20 A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished. 21 To show partiality is not good, Because for a piece of bread a man will transgress. 22 A man with an evil eye hastens after riches, And does not consider that poverty will come upon him.

  9. Truth #2 Wealth is the reward of hard work, diligence and god’s blessing • Laziness and Dishonesty reaps Poverty • Diligence and Integrity reaps Prosperity • Riches are a blessing from God • Proverbs 10:22 22 The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.

  10. Truth #3 riches cannot provide ultimate security and salvation • Proverbs 11:4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death. • Proverbs 11:28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage. • Proverbs 18:11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall in his own esteem. • Proverbs 23:4–5 Do not overwork to be rich; Because of your own understanding, cease! 5 Will you set your eyes on that which is not? For riches certainly make themselves wings; They fly away like an eagle toward heaven. • Proverbs 27:24 For riches are not forever, Nor does a crown endure to all generations.

  11. Truth #4 god honors the open-handed and he resists the tight-fisted • Proverbs 14:31 31 He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy. • Proverbs 21:13 13 Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be heard. • Proverbs 28:27 27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses.

  12. Truth #4 god honors the open-handed and he resists the tight-fisted • Proverbs 11:24–29 24 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. 25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself. 26 The people will curse him who withholds grain, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. 27 He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, But trouble will come to him who seeks evil. 29 He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind, And the fool will be servant to the wise of heart.

  13. Truth #5 debt is a crafty enslaver • Proverbs 22:7 The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender. • Proverbs 17:18 18 A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in a pledge, And becomes surety for his friend. • Psalm 37:21 21 The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives. • Deuteronomy 28:12 12 The Lord will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.

  14. Truth #5 debt is a crafty enslaver • Romans 13:8 8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. • Matthew 5:42 42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.

  15. Truth #6 true wealth is not found in the abundance of things • Proverbs 19:1 • Better is the poor who walks in his integrity Than one who is perverse in his lips, and is a fool. • Proverbs 19:14 Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from the Lord. • Proverbs 22:1–9 1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold. • Proverbs 30:8–9 8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches— Feed me with the food allotted to me; 9 Lest I be full and deny You, And say, “Who is the Lord?” Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God.

  16. Big Idea:Show Me The Money! • He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much. 11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? • Luke 16:10-11
