  1. IB & UNIVERSITIES • IB is broad - options are wide. • Entry to university is competitive.

  2. POINTS MATTER! • Maximize points by selecting courses: - You really like. - You are best at. -Listen to teachers’ advice.

  3. Entry to Universities in the USA • Marks achieved in Grades 9 - 12 (1st Semester). • SAT Reasoning Test. • SAT Subject Tests (as required).

  4. Advanced Standing • This is awarded according to grades achieved in HLs & in the case of some universities, other courses as well. • It allows students to skip a semester or a year of courses and finish university sooner.

  5. Degrees in the USA: • Bachelors: 4 years. • Masters: 1 - 2 years more. • Medicine & Law are graduate courses.

  6. Entry to Universities in the UK • Marks achieved in Grade 10. • Predicted IB results.

  7. Entry Requirements • Subjects taken at higher level. • Total points scored and grades in higher level subjects.

  8. Entry Requirements Proficiency in English may be a condition to be met by achieving the grade in an IB English exam OR the score in the IELTS specified in the offer.

  9. Non-Science Courses • Art/Design: Portfolio Foundation Year Degree course [3 yrs.] • Single BA: HL in subject to be studied at university. E.g. Apply for BA in History, you need IB History HL

  10. Non-Science Courses • Combined BA: HLs in subjects to be studied at university. • Economics: HL Math may be required for BSc.

  11. BSc Economics at LSE • Mathematics at Higher Level is required. • The usual offer is Diploma with 38 points including 7 6 6 at Higher level.

  12. Science Courses • Single BSc: HL to be studied plus one in another science/math. • Combined BSc: HLs depend on course to be studied. E.g. BSc in Biochemistry, you need IB HL Chemistry and IB HL Biology

  13. Science Courses • Engineering & Computer Science: HL Math plus HL in a Science. • Medicine: HL Chemistry plus HL in another science, preferably Biology.

  14. Degrees in England & Wales: • Bachelors: 3 years. • Masters: 1 more year. • Bachelor of Medicine: 5 years.

  15. Degrees in Scotland: • Bachelors: 4 years. • Masters: 1 more year. • Bachelor of Medicine: 5 years.

  19. Engineering in Canada • Some Canadian universities require HLs in Physics, Chemistry or Biology.

  21. IB Recognition in Germany Vereinbarung iiber die Anerkennung des "International Baccalaureate Diploma! (Beschluss der Kultusministerkonferenz vom 10.03.1986 i.d.F. vom 17.06.2011) a) Unter den sechs Pruefungsfachern des "International Baccalaureate Diploma/Dipl6me du Baccalaureat International" (IB) muessen folgende nach der Terminologie des IB bezeichnete Hicher sein: zwei Sprachen auf dem Niveau A oder B (davon mindestens eine fortgesetzte Fremdsprache als "Language A 1 oder Language B HL 2), ein naturwissenschaftliches Fach (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Mathematik (Mathematics SL oder Mathematics HL oder Further Mathematics in Verbindung mit Mathematics HL)

  22. ein gesellschaftswissenschaftliches Fach (History, Geography, Economics). • Das sechste verbindliche Fach kann ausser den genannten Faechern eines der nachfolgenden nach der Terminologie des IB bezeichneten Faecher sein: • Art/Design4, Music, Theatre Arts, Film, Literature and Performance, eine weitere moderne Fremdsprache; Latin, Classical Greek; General Chemistry, Applied Chemistry, Environmental Systems, Computer Science, Design Technology; Philosophy, Psychology, Social Anthropology, Business and Organisation. • b) Unter den drei im Rahmen des "International Baccalaureate Diploma/Diplome du • Baccalaureat International" auf dem "Higher Level" nachzuweisenden Faechern • muss entweder Mathematik oder ein naturwissenschaftliches Fach, d. h. Biology, • Chemistry oder Physics, sein. • c) Alle Faecher muessen bis zum Ende des Bildungsganges durchgaengig belegt worden • sein.

  23. d) Die geforderten sechs Faecher muessen mindestens mit der IB-Note 4 benotet sein • Sofern in nur einem Fach die IB-Note 3 vorliegt, kann diese ausgeglichen werden, • wenn in einem weiteren Fach auf mindestens demselben Anspruchsniveau mindestens • die IB-Note 5 und insgesamt mindestens 24 Punkte erzielt worden sind. • e) Deutsche Zeugnisinhaber, die an einer Schule im Ausland mit IB-Programm • Deutsch nicht betreiben, muessen vor Aufnahme eines Studiums in Deutschland • hinreichende Deutschkenntnisse nachweisen; das Naehere wird durch landesrechtliche • Bestimmungen geregelt. • 1 Ab Prilfung 2013 Lauguage A: Lauguage aud Literature oder Language A: Literature. • 2 Gilt ab Prilfung 2013. • 3 Heisst ab Prilfung 2006 Mathematics SL. • 4 Hesst seit Mai 2000 Visual Arts. • 5 Heisst ab Prilfung 2009 Theatre. • 6 Heisst ab Priifung 2010 Environmental Systems and Societies. • 7 Heisst seit Mai 2000 Business and Management.
