  2. What is Business Skills? This module aims to facilitate the student’s integration to the University and assist them to begin their individual journeys toward academic and professional achievement. …students are best equipped to learn if: • They understand their strengths and limitations as learners • Feel supported and confident in the learning environment • See a connection between learning and current/future experiences • And are introduced to a range of learning tools to facilitate their learning

  3. Becoming a University Student: • What sort of students are there? • This will depend on what you want from your time at University! • Talk to the person next to you – are your motives the same?

  4. Deep and surface learners: Deep learners: Advantages/disadvantages

  5. Surface learners: • Advantages and disadvantages of surface learning

  6. Concerns? • How will I manage my coursework? • Can I fit in a part time job? • What if child care is a problem? • I am worried about money……

  7. Simple time management skills will help • Get together in small groups – 3/4 • Brainstorm the words “time management” • Write up the best three tips in order of usefulness to your life as a student • We will put the top 10 on the web site – from this group as well as the others.

  9. Questions? • Get into your small groups – write down two questions from the group • Elect a spokesperson or write legibly so we can read the question out!! Questions – the key to learning……
