  29. Tile Basics • Wide tiles (310×150 px) • Tap on tile to launch or switch to an app • Static default tile specified in app manifest • All sizes except small tiles can have live updates • Large tiles (310×310 px) • Small tiles (70×70 px) • Square tiles (150×150 px)

  30. Live Tiles Tiles can be updated using pre-defined templates Cycle between five tiles (FIFO) Templates provide rich rendering options Text-only, image-only or combination JPEG or PNG only, max size 150 KB Optional “peek” animation Local or cloud updates

  31. Secondary Tiles • Tiles created by “pinning” content from app • Pin initiated by app via simple runtime call • Exposes a personalized surface for app • Same capabilities as app tiles • Launch leads to relevant content • User confirms pin operation via system UI

  32. Notification Options • Local Notifications • Used only when your app is running. • Most useful for updating tiles and badges, limited use for toast. • Scheduled Notifications • Schedule ‘preformed’ toast for a precise time. • Push Notifications • Update tiles, show badges and raise toast from the cloud(even if your app isn’t running). • Periodic Notifications • A tile can set up a periodic poll of a specified Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) on a web server to get updated tile or badge content.
