  6. A Day in the Life of a Kindergartener full day During the morning, We will be doing a lot of community building, Character, and social skills the first month of school. Starting in October, we will begin switching for Math and Literacy Ability Groups. Half Day students will leave after Library and Read Aloud time at 11:30 am. Please Park and pick up your child from the front office.

Classroom Management • Kudos Cards • Positive behaviors rewarded • Logical Consequences • Individual – one on one with the teacher • Small Group – peace table conversation • Whole Class meeting – how do you know if something isn’t right, if we don’t talk about it? • Behavior Contract • Copy to sign and return to school • Copy to keep at home to refer back to • Reflection sheet will come home if needed • Kickboard • School-Wide Behavior Positive Management System • Individualized – given by any teacher or staff in the building • Digital, so you are able to track online at home (download the app to your phone) • Tracks all AA Character and Manners using positive recognition as well as consequences and discipline

Classroom Management ~ How to Log In • Kickboard Login Papers Went Home at Open House (If you didn’t get one, please email your teacher or smiller@aak8.org • Go to www.Kickboardforschools.com • Enter in username at the top of the page and your child’s birthdate (example 01/15/2006) • Write down the new username that appears it will be first initial, last name, -6pj example smiller-6pj • *note* the computer automatically saves your email as the username. This will not work • Then create your password • Write down your information • Email your Dean if you run into any issues.

  13. Math & Literacy Grouping • Mrs. Baladad is our additional teacher to help teach math and literacy! • Math • Ability Grouped by each child’s individual ability • GoMath! Kindergarten • Literacy • Ability Grouped by each child’s individual ability • Based on testing that we started this week; testing continues until Mid-September (DIBELS, IReady, Writing Benchmark, Morrison McCall) • You will receive a letter with the data once placements have been made • Flexible! WE meet with admin to look over data every trimester to determine any moves that may be needed. • Teacher input is very important as well.

Celebrations • Birthdays • If you would like your child to celebrate, send in NON-FOOD treats for the entire class • If passing out birthday invitations, please invite the entire class • (if wanting to only invite certain students, we ask that you do this outside of school hours) • Half birthdays can be celebrated as well! • Class Parties • Fall, Winter, Valentine’s, Graduation • Dates are to be determined • Room Parents will be sending emails asking for help and volunteers

  15. Celebrations • Food at School • ALL snacks must be NUT FREE! • Only WATER in the classrooms • When we go on a field trip – the entire lunch must be completely NUT FREE as well • If you normally buy lunch at school, please plan to pack a lunch for field trips.

Volunteers • We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities available and more will be coming as the year goes on. • Check our web page for all volunteer opportunities! • --Please no siblings when you are volunteering, they tend to take away some of the attention that is needed for our students!

Communication • Email • We will try to respond to you right away, but please do allow us up to 48 hours to respond as our days are busy • If you are letting us know a change of plans for after school, we will do our best to respond with a quick thank you letting you know we have received that communication • Phone Calls • If you need to discuss something with us on the phone, please send us an email first so we can set up a time • This will most likely have to take place before or after school, or during our lunch time. We are unable to talk on the phone while we have your kids in our class • Conferences • These will happen 3 times a year (October, January, May) • Please make sure these dates are on your calendar! • Who to talk to? • Please reach out to the teacher first! We always want to go to the source first because 9 times out of 10 it is a misunderstanding that can be fixed! • If concerns are still not resolved when talking to the teacher, then you can contact Ms. Norton or Ms. Miller.

How to Help at Home • Read with your child, at least 10-15 minutes every night (bedtime stories work) • Practice tying their own shoes & tucking in their own shirts! • Ask them questions related to what we are working on in school • Discuss and Practice AA Manners and AA Character at home (Behavior Contract) • Help your child with ECAs • Please make sure to communicate with your child what they are doing after school if it is not carpool • We walk all kindergarteners to their designated after school activities • Feel free to email your child’s teacher their schedule for the week and we can make certain your child gets where they need to be!

School Uniform Policy • Uniform vs Dress Code • We have a UNIFORM Policy (KindiePrep was a Dress Code) • All tops and bottoms must be from Dennis Uniforms. • Socks, Shoes must follow uniform policy guidelines. • Sweatshirts and Jackets • If they are wearing it in the building, it must be Dennis Uniform. • Sweatshirts and Jackets for outside recess or before/after school can be whatever they’d like. • Label! • Please label EVERYTHING (sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets, anything that is theirs that you want back if lost) • Where is the AA Uniform Policy? • AA Website • Quick Links -> Parents • Student Uniforms • ---or--- • K-8 Parent Handbook ~ Page 22

Carpool • Make sure your child is able to recognize their full first and last name as well as their car! • Use the green ribbon, stuffy in the window, something your child can recognize to help. • Make Friends! Carpool with other families! • At drop off – make sure your child is unbuckled before you get into the 2 lane • Pull all the way forward to the car in front of you to allow more cars to get in • Respect ALL Carpool Attendants – listen to their instructions • Want to avoid carpool? • Morning  Morning Activity Club • Afternoon  Homework Club as well as other clubs • Visit the School Store!
