The National Health Service Corps The NHSC is committed to improving the health of the Nation’s underserved who lack access to care by: • Uniting communities in need with caring health professionals • Supporting communities’ efforts to build better systems of health care • Targeting communities & sites located in federally designated Health Professional Shortage Areas (HPSA) Fact: About 4 Million people in The US receive health care from NHSC clinicians Fact: The NHSC currently has About 3,800 clinicians in service

  2. NHSC Programs • NHSC Scholarship Program • NHSC Loan Repayment Program (LRP) • NHSC SEARCH (Student/Resident Experiences And Rotations in Community Health) Program • NHSC Ready Responder Program

  3. NHSC Scholarship Program • The Scholarship support includes: • Payment of tuition and fees for up to 4 years of professional education • Monthly stipend for living expenses • Payment of other reasonable educational expenses

  4. Loan Repayment Program • The NHSC Loan Repayment Program provides up to $50,000 tax free, to primary care, dental, and mental health clinicians. • In exchange, the clinician commits to 2 years of service at an approved HPSA site. • Opportunities to continue in the program may be available for 1 year intervals beyond the 2-year commitment.

Purpose and Goal of My Project Goal : • To encourage ambassadors to form a network, and to define a common objective for the NHSC in order to advanced the program in RI Purpose : • Ambassadors reconnecting or meeting • Refreshing knowledge of NHSC • Learning where NHSC stands in RI • Defining objectives & strategies in order to move forward

  6. End Results NHSC RI Ambassadors were able to: • Meet formally for the first time • Form a network of RI NHSC ambassadors • Set starting goals • Agree to meet quarterly Moving Forward: • Common objectives will be further defined • Outreach and marketing strategies will be developed
