  2. Does the Task Sheet as given in the 2007-2009 Work Plan correctly describe the work, designate the POC, and list all Lead organizations? Advocate a stable and improved space-based Global Observing System (GOS) including operational geostationary and polar components. Support WMO efforts related to (i) increased spatial and temporal resolution for geostationary imagers and sounders, (ii) a broader availability of polar Doppler wind profiles for initial operational testing. Achieve a stable and improved space-based Global Observing System (GOS) including operational geostationary and polar components. 3. What is the overall status of work on this Task carrying forward from 2006 and highlights for 2007-2009? Expanding the space-based observing system and improving its capabilities • Major Accomplishments during 2006 • New contributing space agencies – KMA, KARI, CNSA, (COMS-1 and HY and HJ series satellites). NASA, NOAA, EUMETSAT, ESA, JMA, JAXA, IMD, CMA, ROSCOSMOS and ROSHYDROMET already contributing to the GOS. • Update to the Implementation Plan for the space component of the GOS • Global Contingency Planning • Global Space-based Inter-calibration System (GSICS) • Optimization of GEO and LEO plans • Response to GCOS requirements for space-based products • Key Initiatives for 2007-2009 • Update and optimization of GOS baseline • IGeoLab • Transition from Relevant R&D Instruments to Operational Missions

  4. Task status (continued) • Does the Task identify deliverables and products for both 2007 and 2008? • Yes • Deliverables that may be of interest for the upcoming Ministerial meeting? • GOES-10 coverage of South America • GSICS initial operating capability • Are there any issues that need attention from ADC or other GEO Committees • None
