  4. Petitionary Prayer Jabez’ Request I Chron.4:9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, "I gave birth to him in pain." 10Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request. Jesus Encouragement Matt.7:7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

  5. Intercessory Prayer Moses for Israel Exodus 32:30 The next day Moses said to the people, "You have committed a great sin. But now I will go up to the LORD; perhaps I can make atonement for your sin." 31So Moses went back to the LORD and said, "Oh, what a great sin these people have committed! They have made themselves gods of gold. 32 But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written." (See also Exodus 32:9-14, Deut. 9:18-20) Job for Three Friends (See Job 42:7-10) Moses for Victory (See Exodus 17:8-15)

  6. The Prayer of Tears Job Job 6:1Then Job replied: 2 "If only my anguish could be weighed and all my misery be placed on the scales! 3 It would surely outweigh the sand of the seas… David Ps. 6:6I am worn out from groaning; all night long I flood my bed with weeping and drench my couch with tears. Jeremiah Jer. 9:1Oh, that my head were a spring of water and my eyes a fountain of tears! I would weep day and night for the slain of my people.

  7. Prayer of the Forsaken Job Job 23:3If only I knew where to find him; if only I could go to his dwelling! …8"But if I go to the east, he is not there; if I go to the west, I do not find him. 9When he is at work in the north, I do not see him; when he turns to the south, I catch no glimpse of him. David Ps. 22:1My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from saving me, so far from the words of my groaning? 2O my God, I cry out by day, but you do not answer, by night, and am not silent. Jesus Matt. 27:46bAbout the ninth hour Jesus cried out in a loud voice… "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"

  8. Covenant Prayer The Decision Joshua24:15b…choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD." The Way Deut.6:5Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

  9. Covenant Prayer Josiah’s Leadership 2Chron.34:29Thenthe king called together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem. 30He went up to the temple of the LORD with the men of Judah, the people of Jerusalem, the priests and the Levites—all the people from the least to the greatest. He read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant, which had been found in the temple of the LORD. 31The king stood by his pillar and renewed the covenant in the presence of the LORD -to follow the LORD and keep his commands, regulations and decrees with all his heart and all his soul, and to obey the words of the covenant written in this book. 32Then he had everyone in Jerusalem and Benjamin pledge themselves to it; the people of Jerusalem did this in accordance with the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

  10. The Prayer of Relinquishment Job Job 1:20At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21 and said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised." Jesus Luke 22:42"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done."

  11. The Prayer of Examen David Ps. 139:23Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Self-Reflection 2 Cor. 13:5Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Holy Spirit I Cor. 2:10b…The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man's spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.

  12. Formation Prayer David Psalm51:10Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. The Inevitable Rom.8:29aFor those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, The Goal Romans12:1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

  13. The Prayer of Adoration David Psalm146:1Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul. 2I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Psalm34:1 I will extol the LORD at all times; His praise will always be on my lips. Psalm9:1 I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. End Times Adoration of Jesus (See Rev. 5:11-12)

  14. Sacramental Prayer The Lord’s Prayer Matt.6:9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. 11Give us this day our daily bread. 12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. (KJV) (See also Luke 11:1-4) The Shema (See Deut. 6:4-5)

  15. Meditative Prayer David’s Example Psalm1:2But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. Psalm119:15I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. Psalm48:9Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love. Psalm77:12I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds. Psalm119:148My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.

  16. The Prayer of the Heart The Spirit’s Role Rom. 8 :26In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.

  17. Healing Prayer Spiritual Gifts I Cor.12:1Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware… 4Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit…. 7But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good… 8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, 9b…to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit… 11But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills. (See also I Cor. 12:28-30 and James 5:13-16)

  18. Healing Prayer Great Commission Promise Mark 16:15He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."

  19. Unceasing Prayer Thess. 5:17pray continually; Eph. 6:18And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Col. 4:2Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. Phil. 4:6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

  20. Community Prayer Ninevah Jonah3:6When the news reached the king of Nineveh, he rose from his throne, took off his royal robes, covered himself with sackcloth and sat down in the dust. 7Then he issued a proclamation in Nineveh: "By the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let any man or beast, herd or flock, taste anything; do not let them eat or drink. 8But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth. Let everyone call urgently on God. Let them give up their evil ways and their violence. 9Who knows? God may yet relent and with compassion turn from his fierce anger so that we will not perish."
