  3. HIGHER EDUCATION IN SWEDEN • The Swedish state is responsible for running the colleges and universities. Högskoleverket, The National Agency for Higher Education, oversees government decisions. • Swedish students attending a college or university may apply for student aid (studiemedel) from CSN, the Swedish agency in charge of financial aid for studies and home equipment loans. Student aid includes grants and loans of approximately 800 euro/month for a maximum of six years. 412 000 students had student aid in 2007. • Malmö University’s highest decision-making body is the board. The University’s managing director and highest authority is the Vice Chancellor, Lennart Olausson.

STUDENTS • Approximately 22 000 students • Average age 24,7 years • Approximately 60% from Malmö, 20% from Skåne och 20% from the rest of Sweden • 300 incoming exchange students per year • Active recruitment policy targets a wide student base, especially from non-academic backgrounds • 92,7% of the Malmö University graduates were employed in 2006 • More than 60% of students are women

Took this initiative to European network with 120 participants. • Linneaus-Palme Programme Teacher and student exchange with universities in the developing world. • International Network of Universities (INU) 13 universities in eight countries co-working in research and education. • Marie Curie Stimulates research exchange in the EU.
