Salisbury Cathedral • It’s already the second Cathedral in Salisbury! • The Cathedral was built from 1220 until 1258, which was really fast for that time because they hadn’t got so much money and they had to wait until somebody donated some. • The Cathedral was built in a single architectural style, called Early English Gothic. • Salisbury is one of the 44 dioceses of the church of England. • In former times the Cathedral was Catholic, but it became Anglican when the church was reformed by Henry VIII. in the 16th century. • The Cathedral was built in a unusual way, because it was built from one side to the other side, instead from the bottom to the top. You are able to see from one end to the other! • In this Cathedral there is the oldest clock of the world, which is still working! • The ground-plan of the Cathedral has the form of a cross. • The Cathedral tower has the highest spire of England. back
