  1. Microsoft Word February 10 Review of Outlines, Keyboarding, and Tables

  2. Outlines • Teachers often request outlines • Each teacher has preferences for the format of your work • You can learn to customize outlines for each of your teachers. • This speeds up homework!

  3. Pop Quiz: review • Choose Bullets and Numbering from the Format menu. • Click the Outline Numbered tab, then the format that looks like your preferred outline. • Click OK • You may modify the style, and indent. • You also have the opportunity to name your outline format for later recall.

  4. Keyboarding • It is important for you to place your fingers on the correct keys (and memorize their location). • Home row is the center row on your computer’s keyboard. • Place the fingers of your left hand on the keys: ASDF. (Your pinky goes on the A key.” • Focus your eyes on the screen and try to type: A SILLY DANCING FROG

  5. Home Row - right side • Now, place the fingers of your right hand on the following keys: JKL; • Focus on the overhead. • Your thumbs press the space bar. • Type the following sentence - try not to look at the keyboard while you are typing. • Jazzy Kangaroo's Little Semi • Practice is key. When you need to learn any skill, you have to study.

  6. Reaching from Home Row • Your index finger on your left hand reaches to type the G (home row). • Your index finger on your right hand reaches to type the H (home row). • Your pinky (right hand) reaches to the right to type the quotation mark key.

  7. Online Typing Programs • This website offers practice online and timed tests. • Here is another - you will need to sign up for an account. • Computer circus • KeyMan typing game • Typing Adventure - requires login

  8. Tables • Tables are easily inserted into Word documents. • These are useful in science for reporting the results of experiments and classifying information. • Directions: • Open a new Word Document; save it with the name Last First Tables • From theFiletab, select page set up and select landscape orientation. • Open the formatting palette (go to the View tab from the menu bar).

  9. Tables, continued • Visit the hyperlink here and follow the directions given. • Notes will be given on adding columns, rows, and changing table parameters.

  10. Shutting Down • Quit out of all programs: Firefox, Safari, Word, and Power Point. • Log out • Shut down • Replace your keyboard and push in your chair. • Give Mrs. Snyder a post-it with topics you would like to cover in next week.
