  2. What is Under water Hockey Under water Hockey. It’s a sport that created in New Zealand. In the game we use 4 important items: puck, stick, snorkel and mask. The stick is used to push or flick the puck along the bottom of the pool. At each end of the pool is a goal. The object of the game is to flick the puck into the opposite team's goal. Sounds easy? It isn’t. There are twelve players in the pool at any one time (six players per team) with four subs each waiting at the side. A game is 30 minutes long with 3 minutes at half time for a breather.

  3. History of Under water Hockey Although Underwater Hockey is a relatively new sport, it is actually older than you think. It started in Brittan in 1961 and independently started in South Africa. The first mention in New Zealand was in 1963. It gained popularity in the 1970s. There are currently about 750 registered players in New Zealand, with a similar number of unregistered players. Approximately 25% of players are of school age. The younger players are evenly split by sex, but the older players have a higher proportion of males. The sport is a self-managing branch of the New Zealand Underwater Association (NZU). Through NZU it has ties to mini-dippers (a kiwi sport) for young players, and to approximately 20000 adult divers.

  4. At the start of play and after a goal has been scored, both teams line up at their goal and the puck is placed in the middle of the court. The referee who is also in the water hits a gong to start the game. All players can move freely throughout the court. There are no goalkeepers, off-siders, etc. If the puck goes out of the court or a foul is committed then play is stopped and restarted with either an advantage puck or equal puck depending on .the type of offence The stick is held in one hand, and is the only thing .allowed to touch the puck .A point is scored when the puck enters the goal A player whose stick is touching the puck can do almost anything, but tackling players can only use .their sticks to gain possession of the puck. 6. Reflection We chose this unusual sport because it is special relatively to the other sports we know. We love the “under water hockey” because we like to swim in the pool and we like hockey. This is a fun sport. When we saw both our hobbies in one sport it was very interesting. We had a lot of problems in this project, for example: in the beginning of the project we didn’t find a web site for our subject.
