  2. Fish are slim animals that live in the water.

  3. Most fish are covered with tiny protective plates called scales.

  4. A scale from a fish can tell you how old the fish is. Can you count the rings?

  5. Most fish have a bony skeleton and a backbone.

  6. Fish are cold-blooded.

  7. Cold-blooded animals can not control their body temperature.

  8. Fish breathe through gills. Gills are rows of feathery brushes on each side of the head.

  9. Fish have fins for swimming.

  10. Fish have a swim bladder that holds air and helps them float.

  11. Some fish make sounds with their swim bladder so they can communicate or talk with other fish,

  12. like the drum fish

  13. and the catfish.

  14. There are more than 21,000 types of fish.

  15. Fish travel with other fish in schools.

  16. The pygmy goby is the smallest fish.

  17. The whale shark is the largest.

  18. Sharks are the most feared fish in the world.
