  2. Word Wall • Diaspora • People dispersed by whatever cause to more than one location • OR • People settled far from their ancestral homelands

  3. Castigate (kas’ tigĀt) • To criticize or punish severely (v.) • Joseph’s biology teacher castigated him severely for chewing gum during the lab portion of class.

  4. Gauche (gŌsh) Lacking social graces; tactless (adj.) While it is a common occurrence in classes which meet just after lunch, belching aloud is truly a gauche habit.

  5. Ignominy (ig’ nĕ min Ē) • Public shame, disgrace or dishonor (n.) • The mayor fell from respect and acclaim to ignominy in a week when a reporter discovered her cocaine habit .

  6. Motley (mot’ lĒ) • Made up of dissimilar parts; being of many colors (adj.) • My calico cat is a motley specimen; her tail is too long, her ears are too small and her fur has every possible color and pattern known in the feline world.

  7. CATHARSIS • An out flowing of emotion (verb) • When Sandy found out she failed the quiz, she had a catharsis.
