  4. Appall • I am appalled by people who litter.

  5. Bellicose • Bellicose people can also be described as belligerent.

  6. Disparage • The disparaging comments from my parents caused me not to try out for the talent show.

  7. Dissonant • If Mr. Lettiere and Mrs. Lettiere were to sing together, they would produce a very dissonant sound.

  8. Droll • The droll antics of the Osbournes keep America tuned in to their show.

  9. Edict • Mrs. Platt issued an edict that all students must go to bed at 8:30 p.m. in order to be ready for school in the morning.

  10. Elucidate • The students asked the teacher to elucidateJulius Caesar.

  11. Laud • You will be lauded for helping the elderly woman cross the street.

  12. Loll • During the summer all I like to do is loll about.

  13. Loquacious • Loquacious people can be hard to converse with.

  14. Magnanimous • Even though George often treated Lennie disparagingly, Lennie was always magnanimous toward George.

  15. Mandatory • It is mandatory that you pass sophomore English in order to graduate.

  16. Nondescript • The criminal’s features were very nondescript which made it difficult to find her.

  17. Phlegmatic • The phlegmatic student plodded apathetically through the hallway.

  18. Rescind • Because you are obnoxious, he rescinded his offer to buy you dinner.

  19. Vivacious • My students are always vivacious when they enter the room to begin English studies for the day.

  20. Whet • Reading Julius Caesar was just to whet your appetite for even better Shakespeare plays.
