  2. Introductory Remarks God has placed within man the need to worship This is why we observe that in every civilization man has had objects of worship Those objects of worship were not always the right object But they still worshiped

  3. Plowing Two Passages John 4:19-24 We find the correct object of worship - God who is a Spirit We find the correct attitude of worship - Worship in spirit We find the foundation for correct action in worship - Truth

  4. Plowing Two Passages Psalm 95:6-7 We find in this verse the correct object of our worship - Jehovah We find in this verse the correct attitude of worship - prostrating ourselves before God We find in these verses the foundation for the correct action in worship - hearing His voice

Literally the Greek word (proskuneo) means "kissing toward one in reverence" “To adore or pay divine honors to as deity; to reverence with supreme respect and veneration, as, to worship God” (Webster’s New Universal Unabridged Dictionary) Taken from the old English word – Worthship

  6. What is Worship? It is by our words and actions that we are telling God that He is worthy of our praise and adoration In the New Testament, those sole actions in which the Christian engages so as to specifically show reverence, obeisance, and honor directly unto God the Father, His Son Jesus the Christ, and the Holy Spirit

  7. The Object of Worship We are not the object of worship Some view worship as Pop Psychology Colossians 2:18 Some view worship as a form of personal entertainment Psalm 96:6 Some view worship as a form of self expression

  8. The Object of Worship Remember the definition of worship To what are we giving reverence? To what are we giving allegiance? To what are we honoring? To what are we doing obeisance?

The Object of Worship The object of worship is NOT our fellow man Some actually exalt and worship men falsely 2 Thessalonians 2:4 Acts 10:25-26 Some view worship as merely a way to help others with earthly problems Psalm 69:29-34 Some view worship as a big social club thinking that they make the rules and regulations thereof Matthew 15:9

  10. The Object of Worship The object of Worship IS and only CAN BE God He is deserving of worship because he is holy Psalm 99:5, 9 Revelation 4:10 We worship God simply because He is WORTHY of worship Matthew 4:10 Revelation 15:4
