  1. The recurrence of Native Bird species due to the eradication of Phragmitesaustralis Introduction The Cove River Historical site in West Haven, CT is a 15 acre long river. The Cove River is a run-off from the salt water of Long Island Sound. The Cove River houses many deciduous trees and species of animals. The Cove River became overrun with an invasive species of plants that made it difficult for animals to find food and shelter. The Phragmitesaustralis has since been eradicated. The investigation will be to see if wildlife has returned since the eradication of the Phragmitesaustralis. The investigation of the Cover River wildlife will determine if the Phragmitesaustralis has caused the return of native species of birds to Cove River. This experiment will be investigated by going to Cove River monthly to analyze the birds. This data will be analyzed to see if there is an increase in the native species of birds viewed which would indicate that the eradication was a success. Conclusions The purpose of this study was to determine if the eradication of Phragmitesaustralis would cause the return of the native species of birds to Cove River. The hypothesis proved to be correct because nature is less disturbed in the early morning and late evening. Various species of birds were viewed. Hawk The recurrence of Native species of birds to the Cove River Marsh after the eradication of Phragmites Future Directions To further investigate this experiment, birds should be watched over the course of a few years so a person can familiarize themselves with the birds and sounds. The birds can also be looked at closer to determine if they are healthy and well fed and that would tell if they are finding enough of a food source in the Cove River. Problem Statement IV: Climate, Time of day DV: Amount of birds Hypothesis: If a person goes to the Cove River in the early morning or late evening, then there will be a better chance to view more wildlife.
