  2. Birth of LoBirth of Louis Pasteur Louis Pasteur was born in 27th December 1822 in Dole,France to a poor tanner family. Little did he know that he would grow up to be on of the most renowned micro biologists in the world.

  3. School As a child Louis went to Ecole Normal to study. Ironically he later went to Ecole Normal as a microbiology professor teaching young students about the wonders of science.

  4. His Marriage In 1849 Louis Pasteur married Marie Anne Laurent and had 5 children with her. Unfortunately 3 of them died of typhoid fever and some say that this is what led him to finding vaccines.

  5. What is a vaccine A vaccine is a weaker version of a virus also known as an antibody. When inserted into someone it protects them from the serious disease

  6. Pasteurization • Louis Pasteur discovered pasteurization and its uses. One day many beer companies had realized their beer was expiring rapidly. They turned to Louis Pasteur to discover why. Louis had 2 cartons of beer he took one and heated it and then sealed it shut. Then he took the other one and treated it like the beer company treated it. Almost one year later he discovered the first carton was still fresh whilst the other had grown mouldy.

  7. Chicken Cholera • The first vaccine that Louis discovered was chicken cholera. By accident Louis exposed chickens to a small form of cholera. After a few days he wondered why the chickens hadn't become ill . He had discovered that by exposing someone to a weak version of the disease they will become immune to it. This is because the bodies antibodies become strong.

  8. Rabies • Louis Pasteur discovered the cure for rabies. • When he had first tried it on a human he was not sure whether it would work or not. One day a boy named Joseph Meister came into Pasteur's lab begging for the rabies vaccine. Pasteur argued that it was not ready yet but the parents would not relent. Louis Pasteur ended up giving Joseph the vaccine and it proved successful.

  9. Pasteur institute • Louis founded the Pasteur institute in Paris and ever since it has been the heart of science in France and this is where the remains of Louis Pasteur lay.

  10. His Honour • Louis was honoured as he was awarded the Heluuwelhoek medal the highest honour in micro biology.

  11. His Death Louis Pasteur died on September 28th 1895 . He died peacefully in bed while somebody read him a story to ease him.
