  2. What are modaks? How is it prepared? • Modaks are special sweet that are specially made during the festive season of Ganesh Chaturthi. • Modaks are made out of rice flour, jaggery powder and dry fruits. • Nowadays, modaks are made using different flavoured essences and using different fillings to make it more irresistible.

  3. Why are modaks served specially during Ganesh Chaturthi? • Modaks are considered to be Lord Ganesh’s favourite sweet food. • It has been said that Goddess Parvati expressed her wish that devotees of Lord Ganesh would offer modaks and their wishes would be granted.

  4. Why does lord ganesha loves modak? • The interesting story as to why Lord Ganesha loves modaks is… • Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesh were invited by Anusuya, who was the wife of an ancient Rishi named Arti. • Lord Ganesh was given a sweet (modak) by Anusuya when she understood that Lord Ganesh was not be able to satisfy his insatiable hunger with the food that was being served to him. • When Lord Ganesha ate the modak, he gave out a Loud burp and thanked her for the food and expressed that he was full and his hunger was satisfied.

Why 21 modaks are placed as an offering? • The interesting story behind this is… • Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesh visited Anusuya, the wife of an ancient Rishi, Arti in the forest. • Both Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesh were very hungry. Anusuya said that Lord Shiva had to wait till Lord Ganesh’s hunger was satisfied. • By seeing the insatiable hunger everyone was astonished. Anusuya then decided to give Lord Ganesh a sweet (modak). • On having the sweet Lord Ganesh gave out a loud burp as a sign of satisfaction and at the very same time Lord Siva also gave out not just one burp but 21 burps and both Lord Siva and Lord Ganesh expressed that their hunger was satisfied and didn’t want more food.
