  2. Viewer Statistician Description The Viewer Statistician System is an automated electronic collection of family TV channel viewing data that is distributed daily via modem to licensed sites. The viewing data is statistically analyzed for instant market share, for a time-log of market share, and for migration patterns of market share.

TV Viewers • TV Channel Data is collected without Viewer intervention. • Viewer Box intercepts Remote Control IR signals and talks directly to TV. • TV Channel Data is stored in 24-hour segments starting at midnight. • Viewer Box calls the Data Center after midnight and transmits all viewing data. • Viewer Box allows other devices to use telephone line.

Data Center • Data Collectors receive calls from Viewer Boxes and accept viewing data files. • Data Collectors translate Channel Numbers to Station IDs. • Data Collectors transmit Viewer Configuration Data to Viewer Box. • Data Collectors pass data files to the Database Manager. • Database Manager receives all Configuration Data from the Administrator. • Database Manager passes all viewing files to the Data Distributors. • Data Distributors call the VS Servers located on licensed sites to load viewing files.

Licensed Sites • VS Server collects viewing data from the Data Center. • VS Server receives requests to perform statistical analyses from VS User Workstations. • VS Server performs analysis and transmits the processed information back to the VS User Workstation. • VS User Workstation displays processed information from a statistical analysis request.

  7. VS Workstation Banner Page allows following selections: • Geographics (cities) • Time (instant or range) • Analysis (peak or averaged data) • Report Types
