    1. What was the main religion of the Persian Empire? Zoroastrianism, based on the teachings of Zoroaster.

    2. Who is Cyrus the Greats daughter? Atossa. Xerxes is her son, and she had a great influence on him.

    3. What is Susa? Where is it? The first capital of the empire, in present day Shush. It is one of the oldest known settlements. It was the capital of the Elamites.

    4. Who were The Immortals? A Persian army of exactly 10,000 men, famous for the battle of Thermoplylae. They used composite bows and spears. 300 is very loosely based on them.

    5. What is Ahura Mazda? The supreme creator of good. His mission is to defeat evil, called druj. It is mans job to help him by supporting good.

    6. What happened to the Empire under Cyrus the Great? He basically founded the empire. The areas they conquered respected them, since they were allowed to keep their way of life. Their empire rapidly expanded.

    7. What happened under Darius the Great? He created satraps. The land was divided, and a trusted leader placed there to govern. Royal Road was built. He created a standing army This was the highest point in Persian history.

    8. What happened under Xerxes? They failed to conquer Greece. This started the slow decline. He finished building Persepolis.

    9. Who is Esther? The Jewish replacement wife of Xerxes, who used her charm to save the Jews from execution brought on by her only living relative, cousin Mordecai.
