  5. Why do I want to teach? I want my students to become life-long learners and to have an appreciation for the world around them.

  6. Some of my strengths are: • I have a lot of enthusiasm for learning anything new • I enjoy hands-on activities and learning through the various senses • I am very patient and a good listener • I am consistent with discipline

  7. What is my philosophy for teaching? • Every student can learn if they are shown how to ask questions and how to respect each other’s responses. • As their teacher, I want my students to succeed both in the classroom and in life. This is part of my humanistic approach to teaching: • I strive to remain very calm, patient, and understanding and I want to form a level of communication with my students that is built upon respect.

  8. What is my philosophy for teaching? • I believe in giving out more positive feedback and reinforcement than negative within my classroom in an effort to keep a calm and productive energy in the room. (This is my behavioral approach to teaching) • Rules are in place to allow students to feel like they a respected and valued member of a learning community. For this reason, I have very clear expectations for student interactions and they will be consistently enforced.

  9. What are the classroom rules? • Respect all people, creatures, personal belongings, and lab equipment. • This includes respecting yourself! • Be prepared to learn as well as assist in the learning of others. • Includes necessary materials (Pencil, pen, notebook, etc) • Please be seated when the bell rings with your bags, electronics, and food items properly stowed away, just as you would when boarding an airplane. • Follow all safety instructions and ask the instructor when directions are unclear before proceeding.

  10. Regular Classroom Consequences: Lab Safety Violation Consequences: • Safety violations will always result in a written warning and point deduction for the lab • Multiple offenses and/or severe misuse of lab equipment will result in the student being excused from the lab with a 0 • In special circumstances, student may repeat the lab after school once if: • The parents have been notified • The student has shown me that they understand the purpose of the rule First offense: Verbal warning Second offense: Written warning Third offense: Parent must sign written warning If note is not signed within adequate time: Detention Phone Call Home Final Consequence: Trip to office/principal

  11. What is my PBIS?(Positive Behavior Intervention System) • Classroom-wide intervention: • A few clear rules with prompt consequences for misbehavior • Frequent class discussions to foster respect. • The activities planned are meant to keep students moving and to be meaningful. • Secondary intervention: • If necessary, students will be placed in a group to discuss behavior and consequences. • Further lab safety training may be given as a team activity. • Tertiary intervention: • The student will individually with the instructor to discuss further solutions.
