Mission Statement To provide assistance to those who face loss of sight due to the need for surgical treatment without regard to race, color, creed, age, sex, or national origin, provided that they are unable to pay or receive adequate assistance from current government agencies or similar sources, and to provide funds for research in curing diseases of the eye.

  4. 42nd Annual Voluntary Campaign • Included all contributions from the end of the 41st campaign • Included wills and bequests that the members have asked to be included in the campaign • Set a new standard for the campaign

  5. Research Grants • Budgeted 25 grants at $40,000 each • $1 million dollars total • Scientific Advisory Committee • Approved 18 grants • Totaling $720,000

  6. Wills and Bequests • Can be the best source of growth for the Foundation • Can ensure that the Foundation becomes self sustaining • Must be encouraged by Officers of the Grand Commanderies and Grand Encampment when speaking about the Knights Templar Eye Foundation

  7. Wills and Bequests • Ask our members to include the KTEF in their wills • Ask them to contact their attorney now to add the KTEF as a beneficiary • Ideas for giving are • Bequests • direct gifts in a will • income from trusts • remainders of wills or trusts • Insurance Policies • Securities

  8. Wills and Bequests • Contact our office for “how to” advice • Contact our office to be added as a Sight Crusader, one who has included the KTEF in his estate

  9. Current Status • Patient care has remained constant at around 2000 people per year • Patient care costs 3-4 million $ per year • Research grants are at $1,000,000 • Senior’s EyeCare Project- $250,000

  10. ACTION PLAN • Encourage our Sir Knights to remember the KTEF in their wills • Encourage our Sir Knights to continue to support the Annual Voluntary Campaign

  13. Future Directions • National Health Care will reduce or eliminate the need for our services as more people are covered • The majority of our cases are cataracts under 65 • There is no longer a need to treat children as there was when the Foundation was started

  14. Future Directions 85% of our money is spent in 13 states leaving 74% of our states being “shortchanged” With representation in 15 foreign countries, many of our Sir Knights cannot participate in patient care at present

  15. Future Directions Many of our case sponsors are no longer able to do the required leg work on cases It is difficult to recruit new sponsors willing to do the required case processing Verification of eligibility is becoming more difficult No longer sure we are treating the needy

  16. Future Directions • Compliance with the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act-HIPAA • Protection of Health Information requiring expensive, updated security and storage procedures

  17. Future Directions • New Case Processing and Payment Software to meet HIPAA and our needs • Old system 1985 • Support no longer available • Could die at anytime • Replacement could be up to $150,000

  22. Future Directions • Your Trustees voted unanimously at the August Annual Meeting to • Eliminate case processing by December 31, 2010 • Redirect future case processing dollars to • Research • Education • Expanding partnerships with the American Academy of Ophthalmology

ACTION PLAN • Help all Sir Knights to understand that these are necessary and positive changes for the future • This message must be brought to the Grand and Constituent Commanderies • Encourage all Sir Knights to remember the KTEF in their wills • Encourage continued support of the Annual Voluntary Campaign
