  5. PURPOSE OF POWERPOINT • COMMUNICATION • ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION • CODE OF CONDUCT • GET ATHLETES READY FOR PRACTICES

  6. REQUIRED PROCEDURES • PHYSICAL - Has to be by a licensed medical doctor - Good for 13 months • Freshman physical will count, but a sports physical will NOT count towards a freshmen physical for school

  7. REQUIRED PROCEDURES • Online registration - il.8to18.com/belviderehs Tonight @ 7pm -9pm in lab 26 and the Career Center lab • Due to the athletic office • Physical • Complete Impact Testing (concussion)

  8. Registration Procedures • Athletic fees • 1st sport $75, 2nd sport $75, 3rd sport $0. • Follow the online guidelines for registering your students(s) • Payment must be made at the time of registration. • Online payment options: credit card or electronic check from checking account.

  9. If paying by cash or applying for a fee waiver. If you need to pay with cash you will have to stop in the office to make payment and get a payment code to register online. Families with approved fee waivers also have to stop in the office with their approval letter and get a payment code to complete the online registration.

  10. Once the online registration is completed, the athletic office will verify academic eligibility, clearance from prior sports and/or seasons, and physical on file. If verification changes the status of your student’s registration an Athletic Permit will not be issued. Athletic permits will be issued and given to the coaches prior to first practice when registration is complete and verified.

  11. The only paperwork we need turned in to the athletic office is a copy of a current physical exam

  12. IMPACT CONCUSSION TESTING All student/athletes will be required to complete the impact concussion test prior to issuance of an athletic permit.  The test is a computerized test that sets a baseline.  Should an athlete receive a concussion, the athlete will need to exceed this baseline in order to be cleared to play.  Lab 49 7-9pm

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY • Pass 5courses during previous semester • Must have a 2.0 G.P.A. from the previous semester • Summer School Courses/Correspondence Courses – all grade verifications must be turned in to the athletic office by Aug. 1st • Weekly eligibility checks – Turned in on Thursday • Must be passing 5 classes on a weekly basis • If a student is enrolled in 7 classes…(a study hall does NOT count as a class) and they are failing 1 or 2 classes, they will remain eligible while attending tutorials • 2 tutorials per failing class, per week (tutorials can be with the classroom teacher, a teacher in the dept. or tutoring lab) • If a student is failing 3 or more classes, the athlete is ineligible to participate and must attend 5 tutorials • It is the athlete’s responsibility to provide documentation of tutorial attendance

  15. TUTORIALS • CAN ONLY BE DONE BEFORE OR AFTER SCHOOL • TUTORIALS Should BE DONE IN SUBJECT AREA THAT THE STUDENT IS FAILING • BY CONTRACT, TEACHERS DO NOT HAVE TO ASSIST STUDENTS DURING STUDY HALLS OR DURING LUNCH

  16. ATTENDANCE POLICY • CHECKED ON A DAILY BASIS • ATTENDANCE – Must be in attendance 4 periods or the student can’t participate in practice or contests (unless previously arranged)

  17. PHYSICAL EDUCATION • If a student/athlete doesn’t dress for Physical Education, that student will not be eligible to practice or if it is on a game day, that student will not be eligible to participate in the contest.

  18. ATHLETIC CODE OF CONDUCT • CODE IS IN EFFECT 24 HOURS A DAY, 365 DAYS A YEAR

TRAINING RULESTHE ATHLETE SHALL NOT….. • Violate the districts policies or procedures on student discipline • Use a beverage containing alcohol • Use tobacco in any form • Use, possess, buy, sell, barter, or distribute any illegal substance or paraphernalia • Use, possess, buy, sell, barter, or distribute any object that is or could be considered a weapon or any item that is a “look-alike” weapon • Act in an unsportsmanlike manner • Vandalize or steal • Violate team rules • Attend a party or other gathering and/or ride in a vehicle where controlled substances are being consumed • Haze other students • Behave in a manner that is detrimental to the good of the group or school • Be insubordinate or disrespectful toward the activity’s sponsors or teams coaching staff • Falsify any information contained on any permit or permission form required by the activity or sport • Do anything that would embarrass the school

  20. SANCTIONS FOR POSSESSION/CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL OR OTHER DRUGS • 1ST VIOLATION – 50% of the season, assessment and counseling if necessary If present – 10% • 2nd VIOLATION – One calendar year from date of violation, assessment and counseling if necessary If present – 20% • 3rd VIOLATION – Remainder of high school career If present – one calendar year from date of violation MAKE GOOD CHOICES!!!

  21. OUT OF SCHOOL SUSPENSIONS • Out of School Suspensions • 1-3 day OSS – 10% percent of the total number of games • 4 or more day OSS – A minimum suspension of 20% percent of the total number of games

  22. HOSTING OF PARTIES WHEREIN THERE IS POSSESSION OR USE OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO, OR CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES • The hosting of illegal parties will result in exclusion of the athlete hosting the party from participation in all extra-curricular activities for one calendar year from the date of violation. The parents of the student/athlete hosting the party will be banned from attending extracurricular activities for one calendar year

  23. SANCTIONS FOR THEFT, VANDALISM, OR DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY • 1ST VIOLATION – Athlete will be suspended for 20% of the season If present – 10% • 2nd VIOLATION – Athlete will be suspended for 50% of the season If present – 20% • 3rd VIOLATION – Athlete will be suspended for one calendar year from date of violation If present – one calendar year from date of violation MAKE GOOD CHOICES!!!

  24. SANCTIONS OTHER THAN FOR POSSESSION OR CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL AND OTHER DRUGS • Sanctions for violations other than drugs and alcohol will be based upon the nature of the offense, the number of offenses, and may include suspension from all activities or sports

  25. SANCTIONS ARE CUMULATIVE • SANCTIONS ARE CUMULATIVE, WHICH MEANS THEY ARE NOT YEAR TO YEAR. • THEY ARE CUMULATIVE THROUGHOUT THE STUDENT/ATHLETES HIGH SCHOOL CAREER

  26. DUE PROCESS • Student and parent notified • Student shall be entitled to a hearing before the building principal or a designee • The student can respond to any charges leveled against him or her • The student may provide any information or evidence that they wish • The building principal will do an investigation into the charges • After the investigation, if the principal finds evidence that the violation occurred, they will impose sanctions

  27. ADDITIONAL CONSEQUENCES Remember that when you make a poor choice, you not only hurt yourself, you hurt your team, your coach and the entire school. As a member of a team you represent BHS! BUC Pride! MAKE GOOD CHOICES!!

  28. SPORTSMANSHIP • If a student is removed from a contest: • Coach will inform AD what happened • IHSA suspension from contests • District 100 suspension from contests • Athletes may practice during an athletic, or academic suspension, but not participate in contests

  29. TRANSPORTATION • All athletes are expected to ride the bus to and from sporting events • Under certain circumstances you may need to have alternative transportation TO an event: the student must bring a signed Alternative Transportation Form from the parents to the Athletic Office beforehand and we will sign the form, make a copy, and allow you to ride to the game or contest with your parent(s) • Students may ride home with a parent only if the parent signs the athlete out with the coach. • We will not allow students to ride with friends, neighbors, or other relatives – parents only • Parents do not let the students drive, parents must drive • Please do not put the coach in an awkward situation, because the coaches will say no • Failure to follow this policy could result in you being removed from the team

  30. UNIFORMS • All athletes are responsible for the care and security of equipment & uniforms issued to them. • Uniforms are to be worn only for contests, practice (when necessary) and at coaches discretion • Any and all equipment & uniforms not returned in good condition will be subject to financial penalty

  31. POINTS OF EMPHASIS • Should an issue arise during the season, please follow the proper procedure: • The athlete speaks with the coach • The athlete and parent speaks with the coach • A meeting is set up with the athlete, AD, parent and coach • Give student a chance to advocate for themselves first. This is a life skill.

  32. POINTS OF EMPHASIS • Parents – Please do not attempt to speak with a coach following a contest regarding an issue. Set up a time to meet the next day or soon after • Please remember that coaches will not speak with parents about playing time. Coaches will explain to the student/athlete what they need to do to earn more playing time, if the student/athlete inquires
