  17. PreSys + VPG Overview • Vertical Application Modules • PreSys + VPG Modules are toolsets developed for specific applications • Provide a streamlined process in a consolidated menu group • Application focused modeling modules • PreSys + VPG Modules are implemented as ‘plug-ins’ • FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction) Module • Drop Test Module • Safety Module • Structure Module

  18. FSI Module • Allows users to more easily build LS-DYNA fluid-structure interaction models using the ALE method • Used for blast models, airbags, fuel sloshing, alternative energy, medical • Easy coupling of Fluid & Structure Models • 64-Bit implementation to make creating extremely large, detailed models easily • Tutorial & Examples available

  19. FSI Overview Structure Model Fluid/ Explosive + Post Processing Shock Tube Model

  20. FSI Setting - Mesh Generation The proportion of model: 1, 1/2,1/4 The shape and relative position of explosive and zones The dimension of explosive The dimension and material of Zone 1 The dimension and material of Zone 2

  21. FSI Setting - DefineMultiple Transition Regions • The user can define multiple transition regions to ensure the mesh size compatibility between explosive source and medium. • A preview mode is available to display the transition regions before generating the mesh.

  22. FSI Setting -Ratio Between Transition Regions In this transitional region, the element size is gradually transitional The ratio value is the theoretical ratio value between the first element size and the last element size in the region.

  23. FSI Setting - Define the Material and the Property The explosive and the zones have been assigned the common material and property. The user can change the material or property by clicking the corresponding button.

  24. FSI Setting - Define the Keyword for Simulation All the keywords related to FSI are listed in this tab A keyword editor is displayed when the user double clicks on “keyword” When saved, the defined list is shown as defined in the Card list

  25. Drop Test Module (DTM) • A specialized toolset for engineers who perform various tests using LS-DYNA • Consumer Electronics • Packaging Design • Aerospace Applications • Consists of Task Panels that allow the user to easily set up • Drop Tests • Shock Tests • Vibration (Shaker Table) Tests • Indentation Tests • Multiple input files for variations can be generated

  26. DTM - Drop Test • Drop Test Module provides many methods to help the user adjust the drop direction easily.

  27. DTM - Drop Test • Select the standard to define the drop test condition directly. • Set the simulation height to cut the calculation cost. • Calculate the termination time according to the simulation height automatically.

  28. DTM - Drop Test The card option helps to set various desired responses easily, such as the stress curve, acceleration curve, etc.

  29. DTM - Drop Test • Submit the LS-DYNA input file directly • Generate the batch file for different heights or angles
